'Bedtime Story' was released as the third single from the similarly titled album 'Bedtime Stories' on 13 February 1995. The song was written by Bjork and Marius De Vries alongside the song's producer Nellee Hooper and takes influence from electronic music compared to the album's R&B/hip-hop tone. Madonna was a fan of Bjork's 1993 'Debut' and contacted her through Hooper for a collaboration; although initially reluctant, Bjork wrote a song about Madonna being less controlled and embracing the unconscious. The experimental sounds were praised by critics but proved less commercially appealing, particularly in the US where it became her first to miss the Top 40 since her chart debut. It faired better in Australia, Finland, Italy and UK where it placed Top 10. 'Bedtime Story' is best associated with its ambitious music video; directed by Mark Romanek, the surrealist visual reported cost $5m, making it the most expensive at the time.

30 years on, what are your thoughts and memories of 'Bedtime Story'?

Great song... and the remix that was promoted as a single and played at The Brits made it more commercially viable.

It was good to see her back in the Top 10 after Take a Bow ridiculously misfired in the UK (what is that all about?) and surprising that she followed her longest No.1 ever in the US with her first in years not to break the Top 40.

The video is spectacular.

For an album that I didn't think much of at the time and a song from it that I didn't consider the strongest (I was even losing a little interest in her) I now love the collection and am so pleased that it (and Erotica) are getting the love now which they missed out on in the 90s.

One of her most left field singles!!

Much more of a fan of it now then at the time!

It was a bit of a meh moment audience wise on the tour, i dont think it should have been in the last section!

This one took a long time to even "get" never mind like, but I do really like it now. The production is really strong, love the electronic pulses and the scattering of industrial sounds, it's like one moment the song is calming and the next it's unsettling. I suppose diving into the unconsciousness can bring retracted thoughts to the surface. Also, the way 'Bedtime Story' emerges from the end of 'Sanctuary' on the album is just chef's kiss.

The Junior Vasquez remix acts a solid commercial companion piece. I was going to say its use on the BRIT Awards performance must have really helped give the single its #4 peak in the UK but, it turns out, the BRITs effect was in week 2 (when the single fell 4-8). Makes it all the more impressive that it out-peaked lead single 'Secret' (and outsold, 48k vs. 40k).
