Was trying to make a playlist of songs that mention other songs

with the song that gave me the idea being Phoebe Bridgers-Moon Song

in which she mentions Eric Clapton-Tears in Heaven

("We hate Tears in Heaven/But it's sad his baby died")

I can think of a few other examples, Boygenius-Cool About It

mentions The Cure-Boys Don't Cry

and recently, Griff-Last Night's Mascara mentions Enya-Orinoco Flow

can you think of other songs that mention other songs? I mean, specifically referring to another song

  • I've listened to both of these songs hundreds of times and never noticed any of those in the lyrics. Mind blown!!

Groove Armada - Song 4 Mutya 'I got Prince singing Hot Thing to me, I know every line'

Oasis - 'Morning Glory' references the wonderful Beatles album track 'Tomorrow Never Knows'!

“Tomorrow Never Knows what it doesn't know too soon”

Kid Rock mentions Sweet Home Alabama in All Summer Long. Might not count since it samples that song.

I think there is a Halsey song I heard recently that references something by Coldplay but I can't remember what it was.

Not sure if it’s intentional but Miley references Born To Run in Midnight Sky, and Playing With Fire and I Walk The Line in Never Be Me from Plastic Hearts.

Eminem's Stan mentions In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins.

Eminem and Hip Hop in general is a goldmine here.

Dire Strait's Walk of Life references a ton of old '50s tunes both directly and indirectly.

See also American Pie by Don McLean

Travis- Writing To Reach You: "Radio is playing all the usual, what's a Wonderwall anyway?"

Something Dirty Money (P) feat. Skylar Grey - Coming Home

Mentioned 'Tears of a Clown', 'A House Is Not a Home', 'Ain't No Stoppin Us Now'.

Twenty One Pilots - Backslide

Referred to an earlier song of theirs 'Saturday'.

Everything Everything - The Mad Stone

"Let the wizard-talk come at the peak of Choice Mountain"

Australian-only hit, but Dean Lewis mentioned "Chasing Cars" on "7 Minutes" (arguably still my favorite song of his).

Ricky Martin - "Livin' La Vida Loca" was mentioned - part sung, in fact - in Sisqo "Thong Song".

The rapper in La Bouche - Be My Lover mentions Boyz 2 Men - On Bended Knee (but I don't know that latter song)!

Wiley mentions several songs making the charts in his and Chew Fu's song 'Take That' - including 'The Avenue' and 'Shake A Leg' by his group Roll Deep and also 'Number 1' by Tinchy Stryder and N Dubz.

Oasis - D'You Know What I Mean -> Fool On The Hill and I Feel Fine (The Beatles)

Oasis - My Big Mouth -> The Long And Winding Road (The Beatles), also indirectly on 'Wonderwall'

Oasis - Be Here Now -> Let It Be (The Beatles)

Oasis - It's Gettin' Better (Man!!) -> The Word (The Beatles) and perhaps 'Getting Better' by them too

In Riton and RAYE - I Don't Want You, RAYE refers to Prince - I Wanna Be Your Lover from 1979.
