Former champion Luca Brecel completed a fightback from 5-1 down to beat Ryan Day 10-7 and reach the last 16 of the 2025 World Championship at the Crucible in Sheffield.

Belgium's Brecel won the last three frames of Wednesday's first session to trim his early arrears to 5-4, only for Welshman Day, ranked 36th in the world, to make a break of 101 in the opening frame on Thursday and move two clear.

But 2023 world champion Brecel took six of the next seven frames in a scrappy encounter that featured both players making unexpected errors.

One of those mistakes from Day proved crucial when he potted the cue ball when on the black to hand Brecel the 16th frame.

Brecel will face 10th seed Ding Junhui in the next round, with the match starting on Saturday evening before the second session on Sunday and the conclusion on Monday.

Ronnie 6-2 up after the first session, Si just didn't put him under any really pressure, and Ronnie rounded it off with 121 break.

When Judd went 5-1 up looked easy for him but Luca has won the last two frames (the last with a clearance of 128) to trail 5-3

Four-time world champion John Higgins took advantage of some mistakes from Mark Williams to lead 5-3 after the first session of their World Championship quarter-final.

This tie features two of the sport's all-time greats and two thirds of snooker's legendary 'Class of 92' trio, which also includes Ronnie O'Sullivan.

Williams, 50, became the oldest man to reach the last eight at the Crucible since Steve Davis did so at the age of 52 in 2010, while Higgins turns 50 on 18 May, 13 days after this tournament's final.

In the other match, Zhao Xintong leads Chris Wakelin 6-2.

Three-time winner Mark Williams held off a spirited John Higgins fightback to win a Crucible classic 13-12 on the black as he reached the semi-finals of the World Championship.

Resuming at 8-8 on Wednesday, Higgins was initially left to rue costly misses in each of the first four frames as winner Williams reeled off all four with three half-centuries along the way.

Williams, 50, who had trailed 5-1, took the 20th frame but was then largely confined to his chair as four-time champion Higgins delivered a stirring response from 12-8 down.

The 49-year-old, who appeared to be labouring, suddenly found his rhythm and compiled breaks of 94, 114 and 67 to set up a dramatic finale.

Both players had opportunities to clinch a tense final frame but when Higgins rattled the jaws of the corner pocket on the blue, the Welshman capitalised to become the oldest player to reach the last four since 52-year-old Ray Reardon in 1985.
