CHART BATTLE REWIND

Time for another truly iconic chart battle with two hugely anticipated releases going head-to-head in October 2007. Leona Lewis won the previous year's X Factor, after having duetted with the newly reformed Take That at the final, and her coronation single A Moment Like This knocked the group's comeback hit Patience off the top spot soon after. Fast forward 10 months and they go head-to-head again, with Leona's power ballad Bleeding Love released the same week as Take That's song from the Stardust film, Rule The World. It ended up being an exceptionally high sales week for 2007 standards, with Bleeding Love debuting at #1 with nearly 220,000 copies while Take That also sold a huge 97,000 copies to debut at #2. Also a shout out to that week's top 10 which is full of classics such as About You Now, Valerie and Gimme More! cheeseblock

But which is your number one? Vote above. teresa

Bleeding Love of course but Rule The World is also a classic. It was really unlucky (or stupid?) of them to release it that week when nearly any other week would have got them another #1.

Voted for 'Rule The World' wub one of Take That's very best songs... they were unlucky to run into such a juggernaut.

McFly were also at #3 for one of these weeks (with 'The Heart Never Lies') and this exact combination of artists had been top 3 in 2006 as well...

cheeseblock what a fun fact

Went with Bleeding Love but Rule the World is by far and away one of the best things Take That have ever done so not an easy one.

Two supremely superb songs

Should never have been released in the same week

Leona.

Rule The World is a brilliant song and one of TT's best, but Bleeding Love is just immense.

I loved “Bleeding Love” at the time, but “Rule The World” has aged far better for me.

Both are great songs and both huge hits but i adore rule the world so it gets my vote.

Such a shame it didn't go number 1 as its their best selling single in the UK.

Rule The World quite easily, it's overplayed but I never liked Bleeding Love.

McFly's The Heart Never Lies in 3rd also sold more than their number 1 earlier in the year did in it's first week as well as several other weeks, was a crazy high sales week!

I bought both that week, but Rule The World is one of my top 20 songs of all-time, amazing track. I so wish they'd picked another week to release it.
