June 28Jun 28 So with the the Palmeiras / Botafogo game tonight we're guaranteed at least one non-European team in the quarter-finals. The question is, will any more join them?
June 28Jun 28 Author Let’s hope so, disappointed Boca did so poorly after the first game vs Benfica as their fans are class!
June 28Jun 28 The Benfica v Chelsea match was paused with four minutes to play because of an imminent storm. That delay has so far lasted an hour with no definite time for a resumption. It isn't the first match in this tournament to be delayed for that reason. This time next year, the same stadiums will be hosting the World Cup. I suspect a lot of broadcasters won't be happy, particularly in the American continents where the matches will be played in peak-time.

What would happen if a match in the last round of group games was paused? Would the other match have to stop as well?
June 28Jun 28 Author I was watching it on Dazn and turned it off when the stoppage occurred. Has there been any lightening or rain?Ridiculous place America to host a World Cup really and a second one in 30 years.
June 29Jun 29 Did any games get stopped in the last USA World Cup? So is it climate change or we've all become less risk adverse?FIFA don't care, although it does pose an interesting question. Certainly there will be a lot more media uproar if/when this happens next summer. You'd think similar to how the Condediration Cup worked, they'd learn a lot about this for next summer..
June 29Jun 29 Both games went to extra time. Chelsea will have another 40 mill to spend. Hopefully they come back for Sancho.

You'd think similar to how the Condediration Cup worked, they'd learn a lot about this for next summer..I don’t remember it at the 94 World Cup but not sure it’s down to climate change necessarily it’s a huge country America and weather like this is normal for the summer when you get intense heat then cooler air tried to move in and the atmosphere becomes unstable, you’ll see it in England on Tues/Wed when the hot spell breaks.Distinctly remember being at my cousins on an American holiday when I was 7yo in New Jersey (1989) and there was thunder every night which was scary for me at that age.
