Posted July 27Jul 27 20th July 2025It's a Loaded Honey top 3, but shuffled about a bit as Don't Speak - the single - knocks off Tokyo Rain from Number one, so that's 2 chart-toppers in a row, and another act to add to the list of those that knocked themselves off the top spot - that would include acts like Abba, John Lennon, The Beatles, and Pet Shop Boys. Counting Jungle tracks that makes a hat-trick for the duo. Damiano David meanwhile makes it 3 top 10's in 2025. Rob Thomas has the biggest climber inside the chart, from 62 to 18 and his biggest track for over 20 years.The highest new entry comes from almost monday, who co-opt Jordana in on their previously released Jupiter. It's not the first time the giant planet has featured in my charts - Earth, Wind & Fire had a song called that in the 70's, not to mention Train's Drops Of Jupiter amongst several - but I'm still waiting on a song featuring Uranus. I need it to complete the Solar System set of planets. Could someone record Rings Of Uranus for me? Yes, that is a thing, just not as showy as Saturn's. Miley Cyrus meanwhile drafts in Brittany Howard for a new bop, Walk Of Fame, though Miley really seems unable to afford warm clothes in the video again poor dear. Writhing about on cold concrete is very uncomfortable if you have Roids. Just advance notice Miley!A recent cover of Kim Carnes' 1981 classic Bette Davis Eyes has been getting attention, enough for the original to make the sales chart, so that's an excuse for it to return at 68, 44 years after peaking at 2 in my charts. Starlight, meanwhile, topped my charts in 2001 and pops back courtesy of added new vocal from Ryan Tedder aka OneRepublic. It's not quite as great but still good for the Supermen Lovers, of which I'm one. Loved the new Superman movie, very 1960's comics faithful. Cast are back again following on a recent revival, and guest the fab P.P. Arnold on Poison Vine, so that'll be 36 years since The La's debuted and 40-odd years for P.P. - though had I been chart-aware in 1967 she'd be on 58 years and counting! I had tickets to P.P. last year but it was cancelled, and I couldn't make John Power's gig either. Seafret debut with K.T. Tunstall guesting on the very nice Five More Seconds. I saw K.T. a year or so ago on tour, so welcome back! 20 years or so of charting. Sugababes are on 25 years as they return with Shook, stuck inside a lorry in the video, so all Shook up then. Craig david is also of the same vintage and returning, with JoJo, who I assume is the same JoJo of the same vintage too, of Leave (Get Out) fame. Meanwhile Reverend & The Makers are back singing about the missus' haircut, played by actor Vicky McClure, and there are two debuts from new bands, Stonekeepers and Council. The former specialise in retro sounding records, in this case Ben E. The 8 hour drive a bit tiring though, oops! I hope you enjoy your friends round, it's mor difficult getting the energy to club as one gets older, the only solution is afternoon clubs for over 40's with seats round the edges! I mean it's dark inside anyway...!I have already dropped Spotify, the adverts got on my nerves very quickly and the sound was a bit tinny, it doesn't have the bass/depth I'm used to so I've gone back to downloading - onto a memory stick. I had no idea their entire life had so much drama, musical depth and widescreen potential, they really need a movie or mini-series to do it justice! I also just found out the under-rated Jackie De Shannon wrote Bette Davis Eyes, among other great songs, including not getting a credit on Needles and Pins when she was in the room contributing!
