August 22Aug 22 One thing I remember most about this, everyone at school was obsessed with it! For weeks they were all going around singing "hey Mr DJ..."That was kind of how you knew a song had really made its mark
August 28Aug 28 I loved this at the time! It was everywhere and huge!! The deep dish remix was banging!
October 4Oct 4 Author This was one of the first Madonna songs I heard so it’s always had a special place in my heart and I still love it to this date. It’s a great update on the classic “call-to-the-dancefloor” lyricism with forward-thinking, electro-funk production. It also tapped into the disco sound that re-emerged in the year 2000. Combine that with the fact Madonna was returning from the massive ‘Ray of Light’ era and the airplay smash ‘Beautiful Stranger’, it’s not surprise this was such a big hit for her. It’s a shame that, on the streaming front at least, it has fallen by the wayside compared to her other two big 2000s hits, ‘Hung Up’ and ‘4 Minutes’.
October 8Oct 8 Author Crazy to think but 'Music' was actually very lucky to reach #1. Madonna was smart to miss the chart battle of Spiller vs. True Steppers in the previous week (which would have seen her enter at #3!) but she only secured the top spot by 1,006 copies! The BBC reported that the gap was as small as 160 copies midweek!1- MUSIC- Madonna (114,925)2- GROOVEJET (IF THIS AIN’T LOVE)- Spiller (113,919)3- OUT OF YOUR MIND- True Steppers Ft Dane Bowers & Victoria Beckham (86,000)4- ROCK DJ- Robbie Williams (58,000)5- I TURN TO YOU- Mel C (53,000)6- LUCKY- Britney Spears (49,000)7- FREESTYLER- Bomfunk Mc’s (30,000)8- 7 DAYS- Craig David (28,000)9- TIME TO BURN- Storm (26,000)10- DOESN’T REALLY MATTER- Janet Jackson (22,000)Fun fact: every other track in the Top 10 moved down just one place - the first time that had happened! Eminem's 'The Real Slim Shady' also dropped 10-11, so it would have been a static Top 10 without Madonna's release.
October 8Oct 8 I've grown to really appreciate and like this a lot more over the years! I think this was the first real Madonna video I remember in real time (I was 5 at the time!) but then when I delved into her discography it wasn't really a favourite of mine and I rarely went to listen to it outside of listens to the Music album as a whole but it's crept up recently.
October 8Oct 8 Music was a consistent seller tho! VB and her label avoided Madonna to only reach number 2!

It really feels like a number one and the alternate reality would be weird (kind of like 'Spinning Around' not being a #1 if they'd picked the week either side of it)

In an alternative world Madonna could have gained a second week at #1 with ‘American Pie’ had it shifted another 1k…
