Posted September 11Sep 11 The Mercury Music Prize awards the British Albums. Popular online music forum - Popjustice - counteract that by awarding the British Singles of the year. Here are this years nominees:Chloe Qisha - Sex, Drugs & Existential DreadFlowerovlove - New FriendsGrace Davies - Super Love MeJADE - Angel of My DreamsJADE - FantasyJADE - FUFN (f*** U For Now)JADE - IT girlJADE - Plastic BoxKae Tempest - DiagnosesLola Young - DealerPULP - Got to Have LovePunchbag - I'm Not Your PunchbagSam Fender - People WatchingI believe they usually have 12 nominees but this year they went for 13!
September 11Sep 11 Author JADE to win (any - but ofc I'd prefer AOMD most)! But I actually think Grace Davies will win it (I've still not actually heard it myself lmao omg)

Monday at 07:022 days Grace! Glad to see the song recognised <3Punchbag have better songs than that. Angel Of My Dreams will very easily walk this.
Monday at 07:362 days Do they often give multiple nominations to the same artist? 5 JADE songs feels just a tad excessive...!edit: just checked and Wikipedia does have the stats on this, Mini Viva were triple nominated in 2010 and there have been a few other double nominations but nothing like this before. It's also the second year in a row that 'Angel Of My Dreams' has been nominated :') so she's got 6 nominations in just 2 years which only puts her behind Girls Aloud and Little Mix for the all time most nominations. Not sure if JADE is really just that overhyped by PopJustice or if there's just so little going on in British pop music at the moment xx9 hours ago, uhsting said:this nothingburger of a list but at least they have chloe qisha, lola young and punchbag 😛😛😛Would rather have nothing than Chloe Qisha xx

So there is precedent, but it's not regular. Also, AOMD was nominated last year too. I think that's why this year is 12+1 songs haha

Monday at 11:572 days I mean this is an absolute joke… and AOMD being nominated for the second year running kinda makes a mockery of what already is a shambles of a list. That being said, Jade to win 😂
Monday at 14:102 days Author A song so good it gets nominated TWICE!TIMELESS! FLAWLESS! BRILLIANT! SHOWSTOPPING! SPECTACULAR! ETC..
Monday at 16:582 days It's probably worth mentioning that Popjustice is and has always been a very unserious website, always hyperbolic over its favourites. The fact a £20 prize even exists in itself is knowingly silly. So, yes, this list IS a "bit of a joke", but the whole award intentionally is anyway, so they can bend the rules and do whatever they want with it realistically. It's not the Mercury Prize or anything, just a pop website with a silly award show attached to its name.
14 hours ago14 hr The guy who runs the site chooses the list. And then they hold an event (often in a pub, with invited pop fans/forum members) to eliminate songs one by one until they vote on a winner at the end.
12 hours ago12 hr Not public per se, apart from the gathered music fans at the pub. But nothing on any scale. I think it’s just seen as a low key fun thing for the site.
11 hours ago11 hr JADE nominated 5 timed such an icon(If AOMD won last year id rather 1 the other 4 particularly FUFN or IG)
9 hours ago9 hr 3 hours ago, Bjork said:oh so there's not even public voting from the selection?!The fact that it's the £20 music prize should say it all, it's literally just a bit of fun so that the site can honour some of the tracks they've been loving over the course of the year, awarded by a panel, in a similar way to how most awards are done (just far more informally)
