HAVING successfully fought Hodgkin's lymphoma, singer Delta Goodrem can relate to the battle facing 10-year-old cancer patient Lucy Monteleone.

The 22-year-old performer, who has spent the past month in Australia with her family and boyfriend Brian McFadden, flies back to her home in London tomorrow.

But Goodrem made sure she fitted in a visit to young patients at the Children's Hospital, Westmead last week.

It's something she does every time she's in Sydney, following her own battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma.

"For their sake, I try not to get too emotional," Goodrem said.

"I didn't like it sometimes when people would get emotional with me, because I'd want them to be strong.

"I felt that sometimes, being the patient, you need to be strong for them so they can cry all they want.

"I'm only there to put a smile on people's faces."

Goodrem, who has made a full recovery, visited a number of wards and spenttime in the Starlight Foundation room, singing her song Born To Try for one sick patient.
