released on 5th December though so not quite Christmas week itself

Haven’t heard that B-Side before so that would interest me!

Brenda Lee at 66/1 is tempting at this range, she will not be far off even if she’ll likely miss out the way the Xmas chart falls!

Seeing Adele at 100/1 despite having released only 1 album since December 2015 makes me laugh a little.

It took me until last year to not get my hopes up for a surprise release from her.

I doubt Adele will release anything (if ever again) until her son navigates the first few teenage years, she seems to come across as a fully involved Mum and seems very relaxed to let her Music take very much a back seat.

Yeah I can see it being a while too, if she does release again.

My comment was more that I use to get. Y hopes up every year, as I was a massive fan. I’ve learned to temper them now.

No particular reason and it's pretty much a Millennial making an appreciation post for Kate Winslet's 'What If' and saying that we should campaign for it etc.. It's not an official campaign or anything so it won't do anything at all. But it'd be a fun one to campaign behind!

Talking of campaigns, can anyone remember any campaigns in recent years that have had much impact? Particularly ones without any artist involvement, but we can also include those that have involved the artist.

In terms of campaigns involving an artist, Sam Ryder is one of the few I can think of who has had any impact.

Also “artist” campaigns I suppose - but The Kunts a few years ago, and ‘Freezing This Christmas’ last year.

Sam Ryder was an Amazon Christmas song, though, it didn't need a campaign to reach the top 10. The campaign helped it peak highly, of course, but it would have done well either way.

LadBaby had campaigns every year from 2018 to 2022. I try my best to forget them.

In terms of new songs that were successful, it would be The Kunts every year from 2020 to 2022, and Freezing This Christmas last year.

I know some TikTokers had a cover of a Christmas song that didn't do very well. It was released under the name "Creator Universe", and failed to chart in 2023.

What stands out is that a lot of people talk about campaigns to get a song to do well, but I can’t remember any campaigns, other than those by an artist or a record company, that have had much of an impact in recent years.

I can remember one campaign that made the difference between two songs that were neck and neck.

I've put money on Kylie, Brenda Lee and Mariah this year, all at various different odds - I really don't think Mariah has any chance but I had £1 left in my account so at 30/1 I thought why not! I also don't think Brenda will but I was getting 66/1 on William Hill so thought it was worth a couple of quid!

Think it's between Kylie and Wham this year tbh though I'd love Brenda Lee to get it.

We need a campaign for Kylie to be Xmas number 1 if anyone! She has never been Christmas number one - would be amazing for her and also give her a deserved 8th Number 1, given all the Numbers 2 near misses!

Yes - she had so many! At one point, she almost had four consecutive number 2s, until Especially For You eventually made number 1 just after Christmas.

In fact, her first 5 albums all had a number 2:

Interestingly either of these events will be connected to Cliff Richard. He kept Kylie off the Christmas Number One slot before, but he also has the same number of number 2s as her.

In fact 7 of her first 8 studio albums had a top 2 single. And the next album she released was Ultimate Kylie which also had a top 2 single.

Wham! have now climbed above Mariah on

Spotify. It will be interesting to see who charts the highest this week, and also if either makes the top 40 next week.
