12th October 2025

It's finally a number one for Saint Etienne, 33-odd years late, You're In A Bad Way should have been the first time really, but following buying their final album (but I hope not) Brand New Me makes it a delightful first week on top as I indulge my inner Josie & The Pussycats watching the video. That means a first for Confidence Man too, but a second for Sarah Bracknell 20-odd years or so after helping Mark Brown to the top spot. That means MIley gets her second number 2 of 2025 as she continues to pile up top 2's at a furious pace - her 3rd this year, and not forgetting the 2 Fleetwood'ers also havent been able to rise higher than 2 - except on oldies like Landslide - since Little Lies did it in 1987.

Laura Branigan gets Self Control a second top 10 run courtesy of an elephant driving a car, and sombr replaces himself in the top 10 with Back To Friends up at 7, and Damiano David making it 3 top 10's for 2025, assisting Nile Rodgers to yet another notch on his Top Ten belt since Dance Dance Dance was the first an incredible 47 years ago. The highest new entry comes from Foxy Shazam - their great track Oh Lord has been the theme tune to the endearing DC series written by James Gunn, Peacemaker, and at the series 2 finale the band got to do a performance of it, and made a great impression. A few years old, and not entirely unlike Queen at their most fun, rousing! New at 32.

JADE meanwhile leapfrogs herself with her Stop In The Name Of Love Supremes' rewrite, it's rather good at 54, the original having topped my chart as an oldie decades after I first loved it in pre-personal chart days (1966). Ian Storm meanwhile does a gentle-vibed dance cover of Kansas' Dust In The Wind, always a great song, Alok is back with To The Moon joining Space, Jupiter and Sunset Blvd for some astronomical vibes, while as Halloween approaches we have Eat Me Alive, The Dead Dance, Dracula, Zombie Lady, UFO and End Of The World to prove I'm doing my bit!

Lewis Capaldi gets only his second chart entry with a relatively minor hit (for him) with the lovely Something In The Heavens, which fits into both Halloween or Astronomy, Jelly Roll gets his first solo entry, having assisted Shaboozey, Rose Gray adds to her growing list, and Celeste is back for tasteful 3rd, Anderson .Paak also returns alongside Mariah Carey as she grabs a first new charter in 7 years to extend her run to 35 years. Robbie replaces himself in the chart with new Britpop track Pretty Face, for a 3rd of the year.

Hey John! Great to see “Secrets” still holding strong in the Top 5 — that collab between Miley, Lindsey, and Mick is such a timeless vibe. Awesome jumps for “Back To Friends” and “Fort Knox” too! Loving the new entries from Jade (“Before You Break My Heart” is catchy right away!) and Lewis Capaldi’s “Something In The Heavens.” Also really cool to see Taylor’s “The Life of a Showgirl” and “Father Figure” both rising! Nice mix of legends and fresh faces this week.

Great to see new peak positions for Miley Cyrus, Sombr, Damiano David, Richard Ashcroft, Morgan Wallen, Lady Gaga, Tame Impala, Taylor Swift, Gorillaz, Scotty McCreery, Sigala and Prince Royce 😁

New debuts for Ian Storm, Lewis Capaldi, Jelly Roll and Mariah Carey 😁

Hey John!

That's a fantastic new peak for back to friends woohoo. I'm so happy to see this doing well for you it's definitely one for the best on the album.

12 to 12 remains a bop, I'm glad to see it doing well. I was gonna delist it from my playlist but I'm gonna listen to it for a while longer i think.

That's an amazing entry position for before you break my heart. It's an absolute banger and jade has really done it well. I love it.

I'm hopeful the fate of Ophelia will climb here quickly.

Is that dust in the wind song, the same one from final destination 5? If so, great choice to add to your chart.

Fab chart 😁

Hey James! 🙂

Yay at leaving 12 to 12 on your playlist, all 3 sombr big hits still sounding good to me (I was late on them though!)😄

Ophelia climbing slowly at the mo, but moving into a busy part of my chart and I dont think its going anywhere down just yet👍Yes Dust In The Wind is the song from Final Destination, though this is a new version, the old Kansas original was around when I was at Uni and playstations were science-fiction dreams from Star Trek 😄

cheers! 😎
