Taylor Swift’s ‘The Fate of Ophelia’ Tops Billboard Hot 100 for Second Week

A week after Taylor Swift monopolized the top 12 spots on the Billboard Hot 100 — all from her new album, The Life of a Showgirl — the superstar now scores eight of the top 10, while all 12 songs from the set rank in the chart’s top 14.

Swift’s Hot 100 haul is led by “The Fate of Ophelia,” at No. 1 for a second week.

The album adds a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, following its modern-era-record debut with 4.002 million equivalent album units.

This week marks the fifth in the Hot 100’s history in which an act claims at least 12 of the top 14 places — and the first via a set’s second week of release. The four prior such frames, with three belonging to Swift, reflected albums’ debut chart weeks: Before The Life of a Showgirl’s performance a week ago, she charted the top 14 thanks to her album The Tortured Poets Department in May 2024 and filled the top 10, and 12 of the top 14, from Midnights in November 2022, while Drake amassed 12 of the top 14 the week that his Certified Lover Boy debuted in September 2021.

Here’s a look at Swift’s 12 songs in the top 14 spots on the latest Hot 100:

“The Fate of Ophelia” drew 49.1 million official streams (down 47%) and 42.2 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 10%) and sold 11,000 in the United States Oct. 10-16. Notably, the song sports an individual sales total for the first time, after no songs were available for purchase à la carte during The Life of a Showgirl’s first week of release; in its second week, only “The Fate of Ophelia” was.

The single launches at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart, becoming Swift’s record-extending 30th leader; adds a second week atop Streaming Songs; and climbs 7-5 on Radio Songs, becoming just the third title to reach the top five in two weeks or fewer since the ranking began measuring all-format airplay in December 1998, joining Adele’s “Easy on Me” (one week, 2021) and Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” (two, 2011).

A week earlier, “The Fate of Ophelia” drew 92.5 million streams — the most for a song in a single week since all YouTube user-generated content (UGC) was removed from chart calculations in September 2020. With 49.1 million in its second week, it’s the first song to pass 40 million streams in multiple weeks since Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” did so for three weeks in February-March. “The Fate of Ophelia” is the first song to clear the mark in its first two weeks since two hits in May-June 2024: Lamar’s “Not Like Us” (its first four) and Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen (two).

Since September 2020, “The Fate of Ophelia” is Swift’s first song with multiple, and consecutive, weeks of more than 40 million streams. (She last achieved the feat with “Look What You Made Me Do” in its first two weeks in September 2017.)

“The Fate of Ophelia” became Swift’s 13th career Hot 100 No. 1, tying her for the fourth-most in the chart’s archives.

Swift now boasts the ninth-most weeks spent atop the Hot 100, as “The Fate of Ophelia” ups her count to 38 (breaking her out of a tie with Michael Jackson).

Swift also ties for the fifth-most multiple-week Hot 100 No. 1s, as “The Fate of Ophelia” becomes her eighth such leader.

Two songs break up Swift’s 12 in the Hot 100’s top 14 spots, led by HUNTR/X’s “Golden,” from Netflix’s record-slaying animated movie KPop Demon Hunters. It rebounds 13-3, following eight weeks at No. 1 beginning in August.

Plus, Alex Warren’s “Ordinary,” which led the Hot 100 for 10 weeks starting in May, jumps 14-4, while ruling Radio Songs for an 18th week, up 1% to 78.5 million in audience — a new weekly best for the track. It also ties for the third-longest command in the airplay chart’s 35-year history, matching the No. 1 runs of Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” (2023) and Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris” (1998); only Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” (27 weeks, 2024-25) and The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” (26 weeks, 2020) have led longer.

Effective this week, on the first Hot 100 of Billboard’s 2026 chart year, altered tiers will dictate when songs move to recurrent status following their runs on the ranking.

Previously, descending songs were removed from the Hot 100 once falling below No. 25 after 52 weeks or below No. 50 after 20 weeks. Descending songs will now depart via the following thresholds, once they are:

Below No. 5 after 78 weeks

Below No. 10 after 52 weeks

Below No. 25 after 26 weeks

Below No. 50 after 20 weeks

Songs gaining below those markers will be eligible to remain on the Hot 100 on a case-by-case basis. Plus, holiday classics will qualify to return above No. 50 regardless of total chart weeks, and then be subject to the rules noted above upon their descents; the same for newly-surging non-holiday catalog songs, with those without significant chart history eligible to debut at any rank, as considered individually. Songs will also continue to be removed from the all-format Radio Songs chart once they go recurrent on the Hot 100.

Notably, amid the takeover of streaming during the past decade, the Hot 100 has reflected repeat listening more than ever before. Concurrently, as reflected on Billboard airplay charts, radio stations are now generally holding onto hits longer and in frequent airplay rotations. That shift has resulted in charts that move more slowly than in the past.

The latest adjustments will alleviate congestion in various regions of the Hot 100, helping to move out songs that have gone recurrent at radio formats and/or are no longer actively being promoted by labels for DSP playlisting.

In especially recent years, songs have logged some of the longest Hot 100 runs to date, led by Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” which leaves the Oct. 25 chart after a record 112-week stay. Other hits that move to recurrent status this week include Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things,” after 89 weeks, and Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile,” after 60.

Why is 'WILDFLOWER' still here (the exodus of other fossil songs actually helping it to climb back into the top 50 lmao)

I've always wondered whether they apply the recurrency rules top to bottom or instantaneously. Would presume "Love Me Not" gets canned, except the 3 songs removed above it send it into the top 25 so it lives! Unless it was always going to overtake "Beautiful Things" this week. Shout out Luke Combs for the one debut they got this week due to this change, that's what the people wanted, right?

now radio can really manipulate H100, since radio playlisted tracks can still chart. Wonder if Wildflower can do 113-week run just for sake of pointing out new rules to be dumb as hell
