Taylor Swift’s ‘The Fate of Ophelia’ Leads Hot 100 for Third Week, Olivia Dean & Leon Thomas Hit Top 10

By Gary Trust | 10/27/2025

Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” crowns the Billboard Hot 100 for a third week.

The superstar’s new album, The Life of a Showgirl, concurrently adds a third week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, following its modern-era-record debut with 4.002 million equivalent album units two weeks earlier.

Thanks to the set and the song, Swift makes more history. Two weeks ago, she logged the 17th instance of an artist launching atop the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 simultaneously. It marked the record seventh time that she earned the honor (which she inaugurated in August 2020 with Folklore and “Cardigan”). In only two of the first 16 such double debuts, an album and song tallied a second consecutive week atop the charts — both by Swift, via Midnights and “Anti-Hero” in 2022 and The Tortured Poets Department and “Fortnight,” featuring Post Malone, in 2024.

Now, The Life of a Showgirl and “The Fate of Ophelia” make for the first occurrence of an artist debuting atop the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 side-by-side and both titles maintaining their respective commands for their first three weeks.

Meanwhile, two acts earn their first Hot 100 top 10s: Olivia Dean’s “Man I Need” bounds 17-8 and Leon Thomas’ “Mutt” charges 18-10.

“The Fate of Ophelia,” Swift’s 13th career Hot 100 No. 1, drew 33.6 million official streams (down 31%) and 49.4 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 17%) and sold 6,000 (down 42%) in the United States Oct. 17-23.

The single secures a third week at No. 1 on the Streaming Songs chart and a second week atop Digital Song Sales and holds at its No. 5 high on Radio Songs.

Swift scores four songs in the top 10 of the latest Hot 100, all from The Life of a Showgirl, following her eight top 10s a week ago and all 10 songs in the region the week before:

No. 1 this week, “The Fate of Ophelia” (No. 1 last week)

No. 4, “Opalite” (No. 2 last week/peak)

No. 5, “Elizabeth Taylor” (No. 5 last week/No. 3 peak)

No. 6, “Father Figure” (No. 6 last week/No. 4 peak)

Swift achieves her record-breaking seventh career week with at least four of the Hot 100’s top 10 (all since 2022), one-upping Drake (six, 2018-23). Kendrick Lamar (2022-25) and The Beatles (1964) follow with five such weeks each.

Olivia Dean’s “Man I Need” surges 17-8 on the Hot 100 (besting its prior No. 12 peak). The song drew 14.3 million streams (up 1%) and 17 million in airplay audience (up 36%) in the tracking week.

The track became the English singer-songwriter’s first Hot 100 hit in September and topped the Official UK Singles chart for a week earlier in October.

“Every day, I’m being told a new stat,” Dean recently said to Billboard with a chuckle. “I’ve been putting out music for quite a long time, so it’s a bit of a new world for me.”

Leon Thomas’ “Mutt” sprints 18-10 on the Hot 100 (after reaching a previous No. 11 high), with 7 million streams (up 2%) and 59.7 million in radio reach (up 1%).

With “Mutt,” Thomas unleashes the third-longest trip to the Hot 100’s top 10 — 38 chart weeks — in the list’s 67-year history (tying three other titles). The only hits to complete longer journeys: Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” (42 weeks, 2021) and Bailey Zimmerman’s “Rock and a Hard Place” (41 weeks, 2022-23).

While Thomas earns his first Hot 100 top 10 as a recording artist, “Mutt” is his fourth as a writer and producer. He earned his first three top 10s in the latter two fields via Drake’s “In the Bible,” featuring Lil Durk and Givēon (No. 7, 2021), and “Love All,” featuring Jay-Z (No. 10, 2021), and SZA’s “Snooze” (No. 2, 2023).

“Mutt” rules the multimetric Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for an 11th week and Hot R&B Songs for a 28th week.

Elsewhere in the Hot 100’s top 10, HUNTR/X’s “Golden,” from Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters, rises 3-2, following eight weeks at No. 1 beginning in August.

Alex Warren’s “Ordinary,” which led the Hot 100 for 10 weeks starting in May, pushes 4-3, while topping Radio Songs for a 19th week, up 1% to 79 million in audience — a new weekly best for the track.

Plus, Justin Bieber’s “Daisies” jumps 15-7 on the Hot 100, after hitting No. 2, and Morgan Wallen’s “I Got Better” climbs 16-9, after reaching No. 7. The latter leads the multimetric Hot Country Songs chart for a third week.

oh i thought it was 25 weeks. Despite this, there are still some others that should already be out.

Fingers crossed for Billie Eilish to get 112 weeks. Hope BB will realise then that new rules are dumb

HOT 100 28.10.25 #56

THE TOP TEN:

10. Mutt – Leon Thomas (Up 8/NEW PEAK/38 weeks in chart)
9. I Got Better - Morgan Wallen (Up 7/23 weeks in the chart)
8. Man I Need – Olivia Dean (Up 8/9 weeks in chart)
7. Daisies – Justin Bieber (Up 8/15 weeks in chart)
6. Father Figure – Taylor Swift (No change/3 weeks in chart)
5. Elizabeth Taylor - Taylor Swift (No change/3 weeks in chart)
4. Opalite – Taylor Swift (Down 2/3 weeks in chart)
3. Ordinary - Alex Warren (Up 1/37 weeks in chart)
2. Golden – Huntr/X/Ejae/Audrey Nuna/Rei Ami (Up 1/18 weeks in chart)
1. The Fate Of Ophelia - Taylor Swift (No change/3 weeks at No. 1/3 weeks in chart)

NEW ENTRIES:

100. 3am - Loe Shimmy/Don Toliver (3/10)

Previous listen:

Loe's tuned voice never fails to piss me off, and the pace often sounds like talking instead of rapping. What good is that?

Second listen: [-1.4/10 in score]

I do kind of take back my comment about it sounding like talking instead of rapping, but even still, both two sound so out of it and just drained from any sort of substance, with the lyrics going surface level on the commonly rapped-about life of sex and drugs. When it comes to any type of redeeming middle section in the song, both of the two just don't give that and keep up their careless and thoughtless generic rap.

95. Heaven To Betsy - Jackson Dean (6/10)

I feel like diving lyrically into country songs that don't often grip me as much with their overused southern take on the genre, and what I found described the problems in such a better and more emotional, pulling way than most country songs and really let me experience the song better. Lyrics like "I finally quit the drinking because I hate that my demons put you through hell" stood out as more delved into the topic and true to the subject rather than forced commercial country music. I just wish as much work lyrically was put in as was shown into the rest of the song instead of us getting what most country listeners know and expect.

92. Dusty Bibles - Josiah Queen (5/10)

What I take from this song is a worsened version of the best that I've seen from Josiah Queen; he tends to give more of a better performance when he does his upbeat hooks, such as in "Watch Your Mouth", which was a great experience from him. I just wish we'd at least get some more impact into slower songs like these; he has the soul to carry a vocally good song any day, but what I'm concerned about is what he's covering, because that also plays a part in how much he works with this character and brings across the emotion to the listener. In this I'm just not getting that second part.

91. Loser - Tame Impala (7.1/10)

It's definitely an improvement in many fields, such as length and progression. The synth and production inputs that sound like they could range all the way from sounds that'd be used in the 2010s to rap production definitely improve the song.

56. My Old Ways - Tame Impala (7.7/10)

The main repeated line of "back into my old ways again" is a representation of repeating past events, which in this case feels like it's relating more to an addiction side, where you can't stop but want to. I feel a part of the electro-funk feeling repeated was a good choice to really stick in the song's meaning, as you just keep coming back to that feeling, which is in fact a good main representation of the song's definition. I find this the most interesting thing I've heard from the album so far, and I'm loving the mixing on this.

49. Graveyard Whistling - Morgan Wallen (8.3/10)

Previous review:

Morgan Wallen does it again! Yes, this may be a cover, but I think it's a beautiful take and choice that fits his aesthetic well. I just love how he complements the sound in a way that other country artists don't. To me, Morgan Wallen is a very special artist.

Second listen:

I finally heard the original, and I honestly prefer this. Maybe I'm biased because I'm used to this and the "I'm The Problem" layout, but honestly I think not. The original sounds like the vocalists are holding back, and in general there's a missing piece that's felt in the song which Morgan here fills with his guitar and better vocals.

39. Choosin' Texas - Ella Langley (7/10)

Previous listen:

I don't mind Ella; in fact, I'd say this is actually quite a sweet country song, but I don't tend to hear much variety in her sound. Especially not nearly enough to have her own unique appeal.

Second listen:

Yeah… not much has changed from a re-listen; it's still just a normal country song about country things, with nothing here appealing to huge lengths. I don't need a huge section to cover this.
