Where/when did you ask about this? I probably just missed it or forgot about it, it'd take me about 10 seconds to copy and paste all of this from my spreadsheet.

On a related note I noticed when updating that thread the other day that we've just passed 10,000 total entries all time! The chronological 10,000th entry (counting the AQ as the first song of this contest, then semi 1 then semi 2 in running order) was actually Dobago's anniversary entry so that's quite neat

A couple of friends know about this insanity. My BF too. They don’t know the super deep specifics but that it’s a contest and where I’ve got a bunch of music from. My friends have unknowingly been recipients of BJSC music for 18 years. Lady GaGa was a hit in our uni flat months before her uk chart debut. Ella Elle La also a huge hit for us.

The bf sometimes passes comment on entries when I’m doing listen throughs (usually along the lines of a wtf is that)

Anyways, this thread is a gold mine. I love reading this kinda stuff. I'm actually currently working on a BJSC wiki if anyone is interested. Kinda barebones at the moment, but all contributions are welcome (although to combat bot traffic I think you need to sign up to do that).

I wanna say this is like the third attempt at a BJSC wiki. There’s defo a few threads deeeeeeeeeeeep in the forum pages about this.

My stupid lore drop is that the idea for the country name "Lexico" was inspired by the running joke that several people both online and IRL mistakenly think I'm hispanic (including a kid I taught three years ago who legit asked me "are you Mexican?"). I also entered as Lexico for around 1-3 contests before I took a short break and used that as an excuse to rebrand to "New Lexico" which has stuck ever since.

Some know but I'm actually in the contest because my in-person friend ('Sabrewulf' / Dalisska in BJSC) casually told me about the contest during lunch break at school! When I got home, I checked it out lmao.

And I ended up sticking around on the forum way longer than him.

I'll add, Sabrewulf has some very sharp opinions about BJSC (and Buzzjack). One that I actually agree with is that he says the variety of songs isn't actually that wide here. I personally quite enjoy it but it could be even wider. There's not that many jazz songs, classical pieces, hip-hop, folk music, r&b, ambient music, more lowkey chillout music, etc. And I'd say if you sent something like some of those then oftentimes it's seen as really risky.

Well that's not wrong but then again this is primarily a chart / pop music forum (and some people have enough of an aneurysm as it is with just the occasional entry from more out there genres x)

i'd say bjsc has the best diversity out of all the song contests i've participated thus far

Other genres are welcome!! As long as they're under 5 minutes and have vocals!!

I remember that but can’t remember the contest - obviously the boycott lasted all of a few posts l. Maybe I just quit as mod instead as got fed up of all the drama (being in charge of it anyway!! I don’t mind watching from afar with popcorn)

😂 Every time I host something on BuzzJack I feel compelled to turn my phone off completely in case a friend inevitably decides it’s time for a long overdue catchup when 60 people are waiting to find out the results.

I’m always impressed that so few hosts have to bail midway through a show for personal reasons because life happens and last minute things come up!

That’s amazing ha. Didn’t Tyron find some clip of an electropop song that he was desperate to send and sounded like a winner but it was never released in full in the end - it was around 2010/11. So he sent some other song by the artist instead called Hot Lovin’ or something similar?

The closest I came to something like that was hearing an early 2:30 version of Example’s Watch The Sun Come Up on MySpace before it was released several months later and being so desperate to send it that I ‘completed’ the song myself on Audacity and gave it a remix name.

Also Lena and Ellie Goulding never collaborated on the song Not Following. They both recorded the song separately and I combined the vocal on both into a ‘duet’. Outside of BuzzJack, it doesn’t exist.
