how did you come up with/decide on your name?

I don't think I had alternatives, I didn't want something like Lindsey Land so rather than using my name I used the surname of Tonight Alive's former lead guitarist which is Taahi bc it looked cool and I like Tonight Alive xo

I pinched my name from Tirren using the word 'Persephone' in a context I no longer remember. Was called Egabbac before (just 'cabbage' spelt backwards because le epic random funnie) that so I suppose there's a universe where I just stuck with that name forever xx

My only logic was wanting people to immediately be able to link country name and poster; Jadakiss was a nickname at the time. I fear I’m in too deep now

Jadekissidonia to the Beaverdonians

I’m glad I didn’t sign up a few years earlier or it would probably be Glee related

Mine is obviously a based on my username (which is based on my surname) but also did it to link in my liking for telling a story

If I was to choose something again, errrmm something like Keynesonia (after my hometown) or the obvious one, CHASmania

I wanted a one-syllable, inelegant word that sounded like a derogatory term - so Spod was born.

Then when I found out that there were no currently active empires in the contest I adapted it into the Spodic Empire.

Gpad it is Jadekissidonia, because it is ICONIC!!! And much better than Mrshulandia or SueSlyvesteria

I wanted something connected to music, but also something that I felt both sounded and looked nice... so Fljótavík was chosen from the track titles in my iTunes library, it just felt right when I saw it and I liked that it would abbreviate to FLJ which felt like it was guaranteed to be unique. I didn't know at the time that it was actually a place in Iceland, and I was delighted to find out it was actually somewhere that I thought was quite beautiful, coastal with jagged rocks and plenty of greenery <3

It's latin for Land of Birds, because I was still in that pretentious phase of thinking Latin made me stand out. Though Google Translate has in the past said it's meant to be Terra Aves, so maybe I've been mistaken for thirteen years, who knows x

I don't recall any other names I may have had, maybe some other animal-related pun or Chez insert I guess would make sense

i weirdly remember this so clearly lol.

when trying to think of a country name, i was sitting at the kitchen table of my student flat in a housing estate called denton in london. figured using my actual current location would make the most sense, but obviously had to give it a cool alt twist (as per my clique status at the time).

so ‘in denton’ was capitalised, lost its vowels and a legend was born 👀

in answer to the topic, i guess if it wasn’t called that, it would now be N LKNL based on my address (dont doxx me pls)

But you could have gone for Landsey

POPHub because i am for the most part a pophoe

and also because if read in a quick glance it’s easy to misconstrue with another certain word

#branding

it’s teen wolf related

I’d imagine in another life it would be video game, power rangers or f1 related but I’m happy where I am. for now

Anyway, I've gone through a few different names:

  • Mosquetania - honestly don't recall where it came from. I remember some people thought it was to do with mosques, but IIRC it was just something I pulled out of my ass with no real thought put into it lmfao.

  • Kyriatine - this one was a little more thought out. Basically is an homage to my mom with the flag containing a golden plover (the icelandic word for a plover is my mom's middle name), and my mom's name is Aðalheiður which is a combination of the icelandic words Aðal (main) and heiður (honor), so I used a remixed version of the greek words kyria (main) and timi (honor) as the name lol.

  • IKR Dakoteh - this one lasted only one month, but it just takes inspiration from my dog's name lmao (Dakota)

  • Baleghde - my most profound name yet, which is inspired by a quote that means so much to me personally. <3

If I had to pick a new one today though I'd probably pick something wacky like Fetch, St. Complaint, Salma Kayak or Maitin Pontesgotu.

I don't remember how I chose it, it felt like the right name and nothing else would have worked once I came up with it. Of course the first half is Eyes backwards so that was probably where the inspiration came from but I feel my past self would have been less basic. He probably felt that it was inspired enough to add a suitably uncommon suffix in '-tana', which pretty much has no meaning. Wanting to be less basic is probably why I added the é.

I phrase it like this because I don't recall wanting it to be 'eyes' backwards being the reason I chose it. Even if it probably was.

Occasionally hosts leave off the accent in Séyetana and it does look a little naked without it.

Been happy with it, so for alternatives, I know I wouldn't name it after a music artist or any sort of pop culture thing that various anime or emo or whatever phases might come up with - though if I'd made my country name in the direct middle of one of those phases you might have gotten a reference to them. It might well fit with Japanese phonemes. Though Séyetana does work (to make gibberish) with Chinese phonemes.

Anyway if I were picking now from scratch then I'd probably make some reference to a favourite anime or VN (thinking Higurashi or Umineko) with a twist so it's not directly copying a name from one of those. Off the top of my head, Hinamimori maybe (from Hinamizawa, the village in Higurashi and using '-mori' as the Japanese word for forest and certainly not a certain artist I have had minor obsessions with in the last few years x)

Zanmato was a deadly combat action used in the game Final Fantasy X, by the Aeon character Yojimbo. As one of my all time favourite games, and storylines, it was easy to pick something affiliated to this and somewhat more original than adding "land" to my nation's name.

I also like the idea of starting with ah unpopular letter of the alphabet, so "Z" was my go to, and I also wanted to end the name with a "y" as I noticed few nations did this and IRL only perhaps Germany, Italy, Norway, Hungary and Turkey are the only ones I could think of.

I didn't give too much thought to my country name - the first part has rather vain circumstances as I'd come in third place several times in... a certain other Buzzjack event... so it's kind of a celebration of that, tinged with the taking-part-that-counts ethos, which I suppose I've lived up to as I've since been fairly prolific in Buzzjack song contests with one win in 70 to date and a few close-ish calls besides. The rest of the name is self-explanatory, and once I had the capital Bronsilia aka Bronsillier in mind and the other two city names with in-jokes (if I ever host, that's where the semis will be based), there was mileage so I've run with it. Can't envisage changing it now, certainly not to Silverzil or anything like that - if I did opt for a new name it would be Xylomeda (as an evolution from the second syllable and also becoming a rare country name beginning with "X") but we're safe from that for the foreseeable x

My town name in Animal Crossing on the GameCube was Ronta, which at the time was just made up out of nothing. I wanted something a little more country sounding for BJSC so lengthened it to Rontvia.

FSR (Former Scandinavian Republic) is because I was so big on Scandipop at the time that it felt like a pseudo Scandinavian nation.

I could drop that part but some people still call us FSR for shorthand, so I won’t be doing that.

This is amazing. All this time I thought it was an abbreviation of Downtown.

Would anyone be shocked to know that mine is just squareblack in Finnish and French?

That was a struggle to come up with x

I always loved the first half of your country name
