I also think people forget that the population of the UK is nearly 70 million, even though wham is on 6m "sales" (which in itself isnt even 10 percent of the population) a huge portion of those sales

  • It’s more new people downloading rather than streaming that gets me. Would have thought the market was mainly those who used to download whilst it was the most popular format.

  • But the new listeners of the song will be young people as they get into music, and they generally don't use iTunes, so it's actually quite baffling to me too.

I know sales aren’t high on iTunes now, but still baffles me who at this point is only now downloading wham, Pogues and Mariah.

Population is fluid so there will be new listeners every year who believe it or not haven’t heard the songs!

But the new listeners of the song will be young people as they get into music, and they generally don't use iTunes, so it's actually quite baffling to me too.

I also think people forget that the population of the UK is nearly 70 million, even though wham is on 6m "sales" (which in itself isnt even 10 percent of the population) a huge portion of those sales are from streaming so of course your gonna get new people purchasing and "discovering" the songs every year

Another explanation could also be people ars just not tech savvy and when they lose passwords or accounts they create new ones and end up repurchasing further down the line

The most popular songs will tend to be the same on each format so they will be in the same order but the numbers are minimal even in the top 20 now. Maybe those who don’t do streaming are just enjoying them for various new reasons are downloading them for parties as a back up etc
