It's announced just after midnight and published by the BBC with the station then playing music from that artist all day and Jack Saunders' show then covering it in more detail in the evening. I guess you could say that Greg gets the first play which is a reveal of sorts if you haven't checked online.

It always used to be Greg’s show being presented by the evening DJs and playing each position ubtil the winner is announced on the Thursday. That was much better imo, focusing on it for the first week of the year on their biggest show.

Cold Heart and Golden too...but they got to #1.

Padam Padam has been on here and there too despite only being C-listed at the time!

If someone looked at a streaming-era Official Top 40 in 20 years to see what people were vibing to back in the day, it would tell a tiny part of the story!
