Posted December 5, 2025Dec 5 30th November 2025It's been 43 years pending but Say Hello Wave Goodbye finally passes it's 1982 number 2 peak to give Soft Cell a 3rd number one, and Marc Almond a 6th - it had a go in the 90's with a lesser re-recording, but the original rightly returns for the honour. That mean their Purple mates Pet Shop Boys drop to 2, with only Orville Peck cracking the top 10 on the haunting Atchafalaya, his previous highest being with Kylie, while Noah Cyrus is on her 4th top 10 and joins sis Miley one place higher for now. Miley has had 4 top 10's just this year though!Rob Thomas climbs with Ghost to 12, but he has the time to do a new video for the 2010 Train Christmas song Shake Up Christmas, so that returns to my charts at 71, along with other christmas oldies that came over very well at the That'll Be The Day 3 hour christmas song extravaganza on Wednesday: Greg Lake is highest at 49, as I Believe In father Christmas turns 50 years old, and I bought it for a Xmas present to myself. Co-written by Pete Sinfield, Prog-rocker too, and also full-time songwriter for Bucks Fizz and many more in latter days. He did the cynically wonderful lyrics. Greg has topped my charts over Xmas at least 5 times, and charted at least a dozen times, so this will be number 13. Oh, it's also the greatest christmas record ever.One of the candidates to challenge thats statement above is also back, at 67, but it only topped my charts once - in the 90's - but this is it's 14th appearance. Stop The Cavalry is also back again for Jona Lewie, the 8th time in 45 years. The final track done in the show was a hit over Christmas, but not an actual Xmas song - and it's one that pre-dates my charts, but I loved the classical tune as a kid, so in comes A Lover's Concerto by The Toys as it approaches 60 years old.MT Jones meanwhile grabs a second slot on the chart with some more Marvin Gaye-esque soul, Blue is the highest new song to debut as they also grab a second on the list and are being at their most consistently good for 25 years. Same with Bandaids, in a normal chart year where I have 75 not 85 battling it out, they would both be more like top 10 by now - I certainly like them as much as if they were lower top 10. 🥰Thanks for the comments!
