Posted December 18, 2025Dec 18 14th December 2025It's a holiday belated chart from Gran Canaria this week, and Mud's 1976 disco fabulousness finally goes one better to top my chart, following me seeing Mud doing it in concert, along with the Xmas ballad, and snippets of Rob Davies' chart-topping pop dance anthems as co-writer. Shake It Down was an early indication of his interest in disco-dance but the Glam Rock fans weren't quite ready for it half a century ago. I was. Peaked at 2. That leaves the half-century Greg Lake classic to make the top 10 for a 5th or 6th time, I lose track, it might be more! There's a lot of activity down the bottom end of the chart - Kylie debuts 2 Xmas songs from the expanded version of her Christmas album, one of which (XMAS) is in with a shot at the number one spot in the UK this week, that would be great - not only cos it has a cool hand dance for kids to do, it's catchy, and it would stop the Usual Suspects hogging the top. In at 65 and 75 here, and Kylie has already had chart-toppers over the last 4 decades in my charts, but it would be cool for the UK charts to grab her a 4th decade too. Talking of veteran christmas songs, Cher has also done the Xmas album and new track Christmas Is Here pops in to go where DJ Play A Christmas Song has been before to give her chart span of 54 years, while oldies include the little-charted Crystals classic (rarely makes my charts), Chris Rea's (regularly charts every xmas for me). Non-xmas-wise we have Erasure's Andy Bell sounding very Erasure-esque on The Chance Won't Come Again at 78, for a chart span of 39 years, Rosalia gets a follow-up to Berghain, Jade joins herself in the chart with bonus track Church to make it a chart triplet as she pushes 15 Little Mix years soon. Cast popped back earlier this year, and do it again, at 80 with Free Love sounding nice, but it's 3 incredibly veteran acts returning this week. Dick Van Dyke hit 100 years old, beloved star of my childhood years from his TV sitcom, written by Carl Reiner, and the father of the talented Rob who was killed this week. I'm charting two film classics for Mr Van Dyke as they would have been in any hypothetical chart I might have compiled as a kid: Hushabye Mountain from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (I have the model car) and Chim Chim Che-Ree Oscar-winning ballad from Mary Poppins. Dick was recently seen in Mary Poppins Returns dancing on a desk in his 90's. That leaves a return from Mungo Jerry, Ray Dorset sounding much as he did in his 70's heyday, and returning after over 50 years absent from my charts, I think. PLus side it makes his chart span 55 years since In The Summertime topped my charts in 1970. That's nothing though - US band Strawberry Alarm Clock were around having American hits in the 60's, but never made it over to the UK - but I have been aware of them since the 90's - and they debut new material, Monsters sounds pretty good and gives them a unique record - a chart debut almost 60 years on from their heyday. That is pretty much going to be the longest chart wait ever for new material, I cant see it being beaten! 1 20 1 2 SHAKE IT DOWN - Mud 1900002 2 1 10 LOTUS - Rose Gray 7723503 4 3 5 ATCHAFALAYA - Orville Peck featuring Noah Cyrus 2251004 9 4 10 TIME WILL TELL - December 19, 2025Dec 19 Hey John! With that one place fall, it looks like unconditional has secured a long run here. Brilliant result for it.Bandaids top 20 is perfect for this and hopefully there is room to climb still. It's a good un.Xmas is good. It won't be entering until after Xmas for me which is weird i know lolIt's good to see church enter. I think it's fantastic and I'm hoping it can somehow chart once Christmas is by with. I guess we'll see.Fab chart this week 😁

XMAS will also peak later for me I think as I havent been able to buy it yet so it is charting purely from hearing it in bars 😄Church will prob rebound in the new year I expect in the charts, though Jade doesnt seem to get the hits of late sadly. Thanks foe the comments and picks!😎
