So no Christmas freeze after all this year then! And the website says this playlist is from the 19th-25th, indicating that there will be another update next week

Very odd considering how thin on the ground new releases are at this time of year. Would have thought they'd freeze it for at least a week. Will be interesting to see what they choose to add next week, if indeed there is an update.

Didn't see Hayley Williams going A List. I wish 'Parachute' also went A list but was probably a busier time for new releases.

Would make sense for this playlist to last the next two weeks, seeing as Christmas music will eat up most of the plays for this week.

Whereas I've always found it odd that they freeze the playlist!

As far as I'm aware Radio 1 don't exclusively play Christmas music around Christmas time apart from maybe Christmas Eve/Day (I could be wrong, but other stations specifically cater for that, so why would they need to?), so there's more than enough space to promote some fresh music between the Christmas songs...

Even with the release schedule being dry, it offers 2 more weeks for some fresh tracks/post album singles that might have missed out otherwise! (The majority of playlisted songs aren't playlisted in their first week of release)

Fair point. It kinda contradicts their remit though:

BBC Radio 1 is the UK’s biggest youth music station. We entertain young audiences by playing the best new music and reflecting popular culture. It’s the home of Radio 1 Breakfast, Radio 1’s Live Lounge, Radio 1's Essential Mix, the UK’s Official Chart and Radio 1’s Big Weekend festival.

There's no reason why playlisted songs can't be squeezed between Christmas songs or anthems during a 2 week period, in my book!

Radio 1's purpose isn't to generate advertising revenue or divert people away from listing to KISS Anthems or Heart Christmas, it's to deliver on its own remit! Yes, you can have some Christmas/anthems within that, but the playlist/adding new music shouldn't be abandoned for 2 weeks imo!

'Simmer' and 'Parachute' are her only solo lead singles to be playlisted, and they both only made the B-list.

However, 2014 collab with Zedd 'Stay The Night' and 2016 collab with CHVRCHES 'Bury It' were both A-listed.

I feel like she's only been A-listed with this because of the Christmas quiet, any other time of year she'd probably have stalled on the B-list again! Although having said that, if they were struggling to pick a song to move up to the A-list this week, I'd have thought they'd have gone with HAIM over Hayley but who knows!

Greg James has been heavily fawning over these last 2 Hayley singles every time he plays them for what it's worth. (Personally I think they're both pretty mediocre and I loved her first two solo albums...)

I’d have thought (and hoped) Holly Humberstone would be A-listed, hopefully there’s still time. As you say, this time of year is probably the most likely for more unusual songs to reach the A-list.

‘Opalite’ is 100% getting added soon. It’s been already added to the Radio 1 Anthems catalog (as proven on today’s breakfast show). I can see an add for next week
