Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning jockey Graham Bradley has died at the age of 65.

Bradley rode more than 700 winners during his 22-year career in the saddle and enjoyed a successful partnership with trainer Michael Dickinson.

His greatest success came in the 1983 Gold Cup, when he guided Bregawn to victory as Dickinson famously saddled the first five home.

A shake-up in the fixture list over Christmas will see the Grade 1 Ladbrokes Kauto Star Novices' Chase at Kempton move to December 27, the Coral Welsh Grand National meeting at Chepstow switch to December 28 and the Coral Challow Hurdle meeting at Newbury take place on December 29 to deliver four consecutive days of ITV racing coverage from December 26.

Kempton's two-day meeting, featuring the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase, will still be run on December 26 and 27, but the Kauto Star will now take place on day two.

Chepstow's Welsh National meeting, which previously shared the ITV bill with Kempton on December 27, will now be run 24 hours later, while Newbury's Grade 1 Challow Hurdle meeting will be staged on December 29 rather than its original spot a day earlier.

Housebuilder Barratt Redrow has denied it is set to submit a planning application before the end of this year to build more than 2,000 homes on the site of Kempton Park, despite claims to the contrary by the track's local MP Lincoln Jopp.

Jopp informed a well-attended gathering of local residents in Sunbury on Thursday evening that he had been told of the decision in a meeting with Kempton's owners, the Jockey Club, and Barratt Redrow.

The issue is due to be discussed in parliament on Tuesday as Jopp, the Conservative MP for Spelthorne, has secured a Westminster Hall debate on the "future of British horseracing".

Kempton's future has been in doubt ever since January 2017 when the Jockey Club announced plans in partnership with the developers, then simply known as Redrow, to close the racecourse and build 3,000 homes.

That plan met fierce resistance among racing figures, local communities and the local council and the project was shelved shortly before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

James Owen and the Gredley family have decided not to appeal against the outcome of a £100,000 handicap at Newmarket on Saturday in which their runner Magnetude was adjudged to have finished second in an agonising photo-finish, but the trainer expressed his dissatisfaction with how the incident played out.

Initially, the Newmarket trainer was going to challenge the result, in which his runner was denied by just a nose by Mythical Bay, but the 48-hour deadline has now passed for such actions.

Nicky Henderson admitted on Tuesday that he ran out of time to get Constitution Hill ready for a tilt at the Sky Bet Ebor after entering and then withdrawing the nine-year-old from the race.

Owned by Michael Buckley, Constitution Hill had initially featured among the entries on Tuesday for the historic contest at York’s Ebor meeting next month, but was taken out again before the midday cut-off point.

Constitution Hill last ran in March when winning for the second time from as many starts on the Flat, but would have needed to have run for a third time before a week on Saturday to have qualified for the Ebor, a scenario Henderson said was not feasible.

Lincoln Jopp, the MP whose constituency includes Kempton, told parliament on Tuesday he had been “absolutely blown away” by the support racing had given the course since he raised concerns that the venue had come under renewed threat.

He was speaking at a debate on the future of British horseracing at Westminster Hall, held five days after he had informed a well-attended gathering of local residents in Sunbury that he had been told a planning application for 2,000 homes is set to be submitted by housebuilder Barratt Redrow.

The claim was subsequently denied by the company, which said it retained an option on the site but that "a planning application is not going to be submitted this year".

Jopp began stating his case by reading out the commentary on the closing stages of last year’s thrilling King George VI Chase at Kempton, to illustrate the venue’s importance, ending with “I was there!” and “You should have heard the roar!”

He claimed Kempton “is under very severe threat” but said of his renewed campaign: “I reached out to racing and I’ve been absolutely blown away.

“I was really surprised. I thought that when I reached out to horseracing that it would speak with 50-60 different voices but the whole of horseracing appears to be, with the exception of the Jockey Club, totally united by the notion that we must save Kempton Park from development.”
