Posted January 9Jan 9 4th January 2026It's up to the top spot for the late Jimmy Cliff, who dethrones the late Chris Rea. I missed out on Wonderful World Beautiful People in 1969, I just didnt get to hear it in Singapore, so it's a lovely first belated chart-topper 56 years late. That's not the oldest track to top my charts, but it's up there, and Jimmy has other great reggae standards lower down the chart to boot. The only new track into my top 10 is from Cast, on only their 2nd new track of the 21st century having had quite a few top 10's in the 90's, most of them rarely played on the radio, which is a shame. Free Love is a great lush production ballad, John Powers always had a way with a good tune and the strings are fab. There's a new years influx of fresh stuff, headed by the ever-dependable Alan Walker at 45, a great single for the new year in Broken Strings, and ahead of Djo coming back following the end of the Stranger Things series, Joe the actor really was one of the central characters on the show, despite being an intended one-season character, and the threatening for the top spot must be people recognising that. Rockafella Skank and The Rolling Stones Satiusfaction have been mashed up by Fatboy Slim, for a bit of fun, and Diana Ross brings Upside Down back for the first time in 45 years.Other newies: a Loaded Honey album track, OneRepublic on another media-spin-off, Winona Oak returning on a strong ballad, Bastille having their best single in a while, David Guetta helping Teddy Swims and Tones and I to add to their run of chart entries, and extending his chart run to 23 years and still having hits in the 2020's with new material. There aren't many can claim that! It needs a massive video is it wants to rein me in again.End of beginning is great. I missed this one first time round and wasn't really interested. Fab to see it go to #1 officially this time though.Turn the lights off is brilliant. I hope it can become a proper hit though judging by what happened this week, it's days are numbered.Fab stuff 🥳

No, Mysterious Girl isn't Peter Andre 😄It should have been called Toxic though as that's the real hook! Yes Rosalia uniformly unpopular, they either struggle with the rap ending, the mix of genres, or Bjork being on it 😇Plus most people have firm ideas on what they consider "good music" and don't like to stray too far from that template. I, on the other hand, have always been a bit of a music slag, I'll go with anyone 😄I def think you should play it at work, that'll jolt them all up and increase efficiency...I must admit Djo getting the top spot is a pleasant surprise, I'm not surprised it charted again as his character in Stranger Things is the strongest of a lot of strong characters - he started off as a thoughtless goodlooking romeo but morphed smoothly into a likeable total hero who looked after people just cos it was the right thing to do - but I suppose those who liked it first time round are playing it again, plus even more who missed it or didnt realise it was Joe. Kato is an oddity, it's really an OK decent track of back-then that was competing against some big bangers that it wasnt as good as, so it's nice to hear it now as a sort of old-skool dance track, but there are way better dance tracks around that are new that aren't getting to be hits, presumably they dont have the retro vibes as a plus. At the mo I'm not expecting it to get high in my charts, as there's not a lot to it, more of a repeat hook and not too much else of interest.
