Source: Music Week

Take That’s remarkable comeback has been officially recognised by the IFPI with an award for 1m sales across Europe.

The band’s Universal-issued album Beautiful World, which was the UK’s top-selling album over Christmas, is one of 12 albums awarded IFPI Platinum Europe Awards for sales benchmarks reached last December.

Four other UK-signed acts are on the list, led by The Beatles’ EMI release Love, which reached 2m pan-European sales. Other UK albums being honoured were Sony BMG’s George Michael best of Twenty Five, which was recognised for 1m sales across Europe, the same total reached by Universal act Razorlight’s self-titled second album and the same major’s James Morrison debut release Undiscovered.

Other albums awarded were Warner Music act Red Hot Chili Peppers’ double set Stadium Arcadium and the Universal-issued PCD by The Pussycat Dolls, which have both now sold more than 2m units in Europe. The list is completed by 1m awards for Sony BMG acts Christina Aguilera and Evanescence for their respective current albums Back To Basics and The Open Door, the same tally reached by Universal releases Sam’s Town by The Killers and Loose by Nelly Furtado, and the EMI-handled Genius Loves Company by Ray Charles.
