Air on the R1 A list ❤️

What’s the oldest playlist you have @Sempachorra ?

1997, but only a couple.

I do have access to what Radio 1 was playing before 1998 but like the top20 most played songs so not full playlist.

    Who would've thought at the time, of all acts on the playlist? 🤯

A few songs on that 1998 playlist that took a re-release (and ad campaign usage in two cases) to smash in the following two years - Bran Van 3000, Wiseguys and Sonique. B*Witched on the A-list, must be one of the poppiest, cheesiest songs Radio 1 ever A-listed! I wonder why they had a Boyzone album track on the C-list too.

The current day playlist is so small in comparison.

I was just gonna say, I don't recognise that Boyzone single. Why on earth would they have playlisted an album track, that makes no sense?!

But then All That I Need was there on the a-list at the same time. Maybe it was like an album of the week situation and that was playlisted as a highlight.

Possibly, but I don't remember any other examples of that happening.

I think the album came out in late May, this playlist seems to be mid May, so maybe they got it as an exclusive preview track prior to the album release and they justified it as Boyzone were so huge at the time. Agree it looks a bit odd though.

I don't think I've ever heard the track - I didn't buy that Boyzone album and it isn't on the three disc Essential collection of theirs I have. Just checking it now and it appears to be a Cheiron production so maybe it was earmarked as a potential future single (and then No Matter What came along I guess and changed the plans for the era). I think I Love The Way You Love Me was from the re-release too (then later remixed again for the single version), so they didn't end up releasing any post-album singles from the original album's tracks.

@gooddelta @Mangø

Oh there are some where they've playlisted album tracks, but not many.

Usually what happens with big artists is the A-listed song is removed and immediately replaced by the next single, maybe that one was a contender.

On this weeks playlist, Garbage "Special" was added and "Push It" was removed from the A-list, but as we all know, the follow-up to "Push It" was "I Think I'm Paranoid", so sometimes labels or radio stations play with potential singles. "Special" was only a single in late 1998.

Will Be Yours was originally going to be the next single, with No Matter What as the second A side.

Bit surprising that they'd playlist it before it was serviced though.
