It's not the first time Dave Dee & co have replaced themselves at the top of my chart, they last did it with Last Night In Soho and The Legend Of Xanadu in the early 2000's when I caught them on tour promoting a new Greatest Hits for the final time together, a few years before Dave Dee passed away, and so it happens that the uncharted Don Juan replaces the uncharted Zabadak! in my affections this week. The Spanish vibe is very much Legend Of Xanadu part 2, but it's still a cracker I missed at the time. The oldies stay strong as Bobby Goldsboro's 1973 summer ballad glides up to 5 for a second attempt at a run for the top 2.

Sort of old, Gregg Alexander's re-do of his own song with Michelle Branch rockets up to 6, meaning Michelle gets to go top 10 twice with the former chart-topper from the early Noughties. Olivia Rodrigo meanwhile is rising all over the place: Honeybee is lovely, and climbs to 8 as The Cure goes top 20, and Stupid Song is up to 71. Madonna is even more mulitply successful as the first track from Confessions II goes top 10: Love Sensation at 9 is Madonna's first top 10 since Medellin topped my chart in 2019, and adds to her well-over 100 chart hits. Danceteria is up to 44, Bizarre 75 and Read My Lips 90.

Jungle rise 46 places to 18 with Someday, Somewhere with The Wave still top 5, while there are some more music-related deaths this week securing some oldies returning to the chart: one of the core members of The Rubettes passed away, former session-musician Tony Thorpe, so a trio of their greatest tracks return: the gorgeous Baby I Know at 48, top 10 in 1977, You're The Reason Why at 83, a country-style gem that also went top 10 for me in 1976, and the 50's retro follow-up to Sugar Baby Love at 61 - Tonight from 1974 didn't click with me at the time, but it's sounding fab 50-odd years on. Early 60's rocker Freddy Cannon also passed away, and he's never charted for me before, not even as an oldie, so in comes his obscure original of Buzz Buzz A-Diddle-It at 89 - first charted top 10 for me in 1980 for Matchbox - and Palisades Park at 100.

Holly Humberstone charts a second on the chart at 85 with Blue Dream, as White Noise closes in the top 40, for a 4th of 2026, and U2 make it 4 as well in 2026 as a good Martin Garrix collab at 86, Fireflies, enters as Street Of Dreams leaps to 62. It's not Martin Garrix's first of the year either. Tove Lo can't stay away, either, Des Fleurs at 94 with Stromae adding some French class. Natalie Imbruglia replaces herself pretty smartly, Just Drive at 96, Orville Peck keeps the ball rolling with Too Little Too Late at 98, and The Avalanches are also back at 99 with Blue Shadows, interesting musically as ever 5 years on from their last top 10 - The Divine Chord - and 25 years on from the sublime Since I Left You debuted.
