Val 4Jaden, Unless or until Gareth comes back into the entertainment industry in any shape or form, he is a failed pop star. Now you might not like to hear it, but anyone who has not been seen for the last 3 years and has lost a record contract to boot, could hardly be termed anything else by the public.

Oh, come on Marguerite. There are hundreds of artists who are not seen around for several years and who for one reason or another change record labels (and some of us still don't know the real reason do we). Kylie is just one prime example. They are not seen as failures, or at least only by those people who don't want to see any long term reasons for it.

If those people choose to put their own interpretation on matters, that's their prerogative, but that doesn't mean they are right.

Most people just patiently wait to see what the next installment brings forth. Admittedly, sometimes that patience is tested to the limit, for those more avid fans, but it will be worth it when we see the results.

Meanwhile I'll content myself with keeping up with all things Will, or whoever else takes my fancy, whilst most-times, if I can, ignoring the references to myself posted in here.

Yes I have seen them before :D Must have been having a bad day today ;)

Why are we talking about Gareth at all in this forum?

The only thing I can rant about is, why do I have to wait another 2 weeks till I get to see Will live? :banghead: I'm going out of my mind...

EDIT: I'm now reading through that thread that started this whole petty argument. I have to say I can't stand it when newspaper articles big someone up at someone else's expense and being totally inaccurate with it as well. It really annoys me. I mean, isn't there plenty of excellent stuff to be said about Will's music and talents without resorting to dragging up comparisons to other musical acts from talent shows? I couldn't care less whether Will or Gareth had done more covers than the other. It would be really hard to find an accurate figure for that, anyway, especially if you include one-off live performances ("Doncha" was one of them). In fact, because I couldn't care less, I'm going to list my favourite cover versions by Will (and boy, there were quite a number left off!) -

2002

I Won't Dance

Beyond The Sea (this was a b-side as well, shamelessly left off the comparison list on the previous page :P )

Just The Way You look tonight (one-off, beautifully sung in Covent Garden  )

Summertime (CBBC Proms in the Park)

Beat Out That Rhythm On A Drum (CBBC Proms in the Park)

Signed, Sealed & Delivered (Will & Gareth Tour)

Fields of Gold (at a charity do in a church)

They Can't Take That Away From Me

2003

Roxanne (Killerton - he also sang a Stevie Wonder classic, but the title of the song escapes me)

A Nightingale Sang In Berkley Square

Love The One You're With

2004

Hey Ya (fabulous)

You're Welcome To The Club  - genius!

Go To Hell

I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know

Papa's Got A Brand New Bag (with James Brown)

I Couldn't Love You More (this involved some excellent tambourine playing  )

In The Stone

2005

Blowin' In The Wind (with Ruby Turner and Jools Holland + his orchestra  )

Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B

Love For Sale

Happiness

2006

Doncha

Blame It On The Sun

That's not even all the covers he's done, it's just a list of those I particularly like.

Something megham wrote in that thread in the Darius forum struck a cord with me:

think all three boys are talented. I don't need to bring one down to bolster another up.

Peace, everyone!

Exactly Toni. I came into Will's forum to read about Will's tour amongst other things and noticed a post about Gareth had been responded to in here by Truly Talented.

Two weeks seems like an eternity doesn't it, but it sounds as though you have a treat in store from what I've read of the Tour. Happy waiting

God Toni i know..i actually think we talk more about him that his own fans do..i know there are hardly any of them left..but still..

you have two weeks to go..me too!..i have seen him at Cardiff and can't wait to go again..he's great!

Hey, I've just edited my post (took me a while). How do you like my list? :D

Will is such an amazing interpreter of other people's songs. He can write his own, too, though, and there are many I love amongst those.

Blame it on the sun was a great version..his voice   he's so talented.

my rant is..i woke up about a million times last night for no reason..so tired today.

Roxanne (Killerton - he also sang a Stevie Wonder classic, but the title of the song escapes me)

Toni - shame on you - how could you forget Superstition. Did you go to Killerton? That was a stonking performance of it and everyone knew what he was going to sing the minute the intro played.

Agree with you on Love for Sale and Blame it on the Sun and what about Your Love is King. I love Sade but, for me, Will's version excels.

Totally agree all 3 i think are my favorite covers that Will has done  I was not a big fan of sade's version but Wills is gorgeous

The fact that Will recognises other peoples talent for songwriting and wishes to pay homage to them by performing their songs, whether on c.d. or in concert, says more about the measure of the man, than those who's own ego would stop them from ever considering someone elses work was as good, if not better.

He's a very gifted interpreter of songs, and that's a talent that's sadly missing in the industry nowadays.

Thanks Marguerite - totally agree - the emphasis on having to write their own material is, imo, totally misplaced. It's horrendously difficult to come up with a song that ticks all the boxes to make it hit material.

How could I forget about Your Love Is King? :o That's quite shocking, especially as I sang it in Karaoke last Thursday. I could only think of Will songs that I would know well enough to sing, but they're all men's songs, obviously, and mostly not in my range. But then I thought of YLIK, so I sang that. I was quite tipsy, but the "audience" seemed to appreciate it, even though I had to improvise a bit.

I think Will has probably done more cover versions than G4 and Gareth put together! But I'm quite happy about that, as they're all so good (with one or two exceptions).

Damn, damn, damn  - took my car for it's MOT and it didn't pass. :( I was really surprised - now I'll have a bill for about £200 for some brake tubes or summat. Been toying with the idea of changing it anyway, but now I'll have to start thinking seriously - new tyres last year, now this - too much money, and I need every last penny for merchandice at Newcastle  if there's any left after everyone else has been at it. And I need some money to go to Australia next March.

Dot, you are right, but that list is pretty pants, anyway. They included some b-sides of Will's, but not all, and they didn't take live performances into consideration - well, only one, in Will's case, from 2006. Dur, what about the cover versions that Gareth did for the Will & Gareth tour? ;) And the album track on his first album that was a cover of a Britney Spears album track?

Nah, it really isn't worth nit-picking  because that list doesn't prove anything, although it's true, Will has done way more :yahoo: partially because he's done more songs generally, too, and he's had a longer career, so far.

Not going to spoil things for anyone who hasn't been to the tour yet but there's a lovely new little gem of a cover on the tour.

Just back from Manchester but can't quite get my head straight yet, totally blown away.  :cheer: :funky:

I wouldn't bother to get your head straight TT - after all you'll only be going through it all again next week. :yahoo:  Glad you had such a great time last night. :cheer:

I've downloaded the "lovely new little gem of a cover" TT, and you're right it's brilliant. :cheer: Got the mood of the time exactly.
