The only difference is that the detractors do it out of the forum. To actually go to the length of getting another seperate board to vote so that D wouldn't win, says it all really.

They are just scared that someone who is not "cool" according to their blinkered out of touch "if the music media says he isnt we mustnt be seen to like him" sensibilities, might actually have a fanbase who is loyal

 

I honestly believe that a good amount of people buy albums by bands like Coldplay because of the sheep syndrome. The die hard fans buy it and it gets noticed then the rest buy it so as to say "ive got that one" or "ive got that one because it makes me feel that I am up to date, cool, knowledgeable and a la mode" I know of someone who buys albums to be able to say he has them ... and never plays them

 

How crass is that

 

Another manifestation of that kind of attitude is displayed here and on CC with regard to our man.

 

You just watch, the minute our man "repairs" his reputation in their eyes, he will not be able to do any wrong and there will be "I was a fan since Popstars" arseholes popping up everywhere. Thing is .. we will know the truth. What I will want to know is .. "where were you when GITM didnt make it to the top twenty. How many copies did you buy"

 

Sod the lot of them .... pity them for what they dont know

 

 

I only buy music that strikes a chord with me. I rarely buy any album when it first comes out.

 

When I finally embrace downloading, then I will only purchase the tracks that do that. Some of the albums I've bought(excluding Darius) have had 33% songs (not always the singles) I like and 67% filler stuff with no merit.

 

I don't trust downloading. My fear is that somehow I will lose some music I would want to keep forever. I think it's because I've lost so many precious ( to me) files on computers in the past.

It's happening with i-pods. The important thing seems to be how big volume wise it is and people boast about how many songs they've downloaded as if quantity was the be all and end all.

 

Strange mentality.

I admit I love alot of space on my mp3 player, but I nly put songs on I like, rather than a friend of mine who asked to borrow CDs purely to fill up his ipod. hmmm.

I feel sorry for Robbie's fans they've worked their socks off and I'm sure they would have easily been number 1 last week when the tables didn't go up.

 

Should we start a new league tables thread or just change the title of this one? Is it worth pinning or just left and bumped up weekly/fortnightly when the new tables go up?

just pondering that, may work to change the title and bump it up, if that doesnt work we can pin it..

The thread for we are no. 3 says it's link is broken. I don't think it really matters as long as it's not being used as a weapon to close forums, or as a competition. As long as everyone enjoys the forums they like.

I posted here, came off, saw the other thread, went to post there and was told files were missing and the thread may have been moved ot removed!

 

I thought it was my cold that was making me dizzy - now I'm not so sure.

 

One suggestion - if the title reads "we are no ....?", it wouldn't need to be changed each week.

 

Or do you want people to see the ranking at a glance without reading the thread, pip ?

I think as well as what Trish says, the press and media attitude has to change or to no avail.

I think we did well to get to no 3 considering a few of us had problems getting on here last week.

 

Im suprised the Robbie forum is only no2 they seem to be very busy.

With regards to a regular league tables update, I think it is a good idea to just keep updating this thread but I might suggest putting in the page on which the update is so people don't have to trawl through all the time. Rather than pinning it, which gives it slightly too much importance to me. We're here to talk about Darius, not OF tables.

I've never been keen on league tables , especially those for public services (but that's for the politics and discussion forum if it ever gets going.)
