Posted February 3, 200718 yr Following the re-formation of Take That. It has been annouced that The Police and Orchestral Manoevres In THe Dark (OMD) are both to re-form. Police (including frontman Sting) - had 16 UK Top 75 hits Between 1978 and 1984 including 5 number 1s. They also had 9 Top40 US hits. OMD had 29 UK Top 75 hits between 1980 and 1996. They also had 4 US Top 40 hits. OMD were my second fave UK band of the 80s after Human League. What do you think of them reforming? I think a good thing as today's UK music scene is (with a few exceptions) pretty boring and bland. With too much US R&B and Hip-Hop rubbish. In the past the charts were filled with a much larger amount of music genre. Bands re-forming give the over 30s a chance to hear (and perhaps see) their fave bands again and for the under 30s a chance to hear (and see what they missed). I wish Pink Floyd would reform. For me they were second only to the Beatles. Edited February 4, 200718 yr by Euro Music
February 3, 200718 yr in general i think its good as some great bands are reforming like the police, james, take that
February 3, 200718 yr ..... and Van Halen with original lead singer David Lee Roth ...... the Eagles are set to release their first studio album since 1979.... and Rage Against The Machine have reformed after seven years apart.
February 3, 200718 yr its a bad thing.... they had their day, they are now old men and music should be youth lead. reformations are nearly always a big mistake, old people trying to re-capture their youth...

Generally i would agree with this, but todays music with a few exceptions is pretty dire, todays artists will only have themselves to blame if the oldies sell more records today
February 3, 200718 yr If a band wants to get back together and they still have it, then why not. Why should age come into it? Who made the rule that music should be youth led? If someone has something creative to offer then why not continue making music? They obviously have a love of music. And for most artists it's their career.
February 3, 200718 yr Don't forget James, Jesus And Mary Chain, Crowded House... Also Rage Against The Machine, The Smashing Pumpkins, Dinosaur Junior, My Bloody Valentine APPARENTLY aswell
February 4, 200718 yr I think it's a good thing.. All Saints made a comeback.. COME ON!! Although it didn't turn out as good as it should have :(
February 4, 200718 yr Certain bands I don't mind reforming but others I don't like doing so seeing as I thought they were c**p in the first place.
February 6, 200718 yr Some of them are okay, but on the whole I find it utterly boring, to have the same bands recycled, especially when there is so much undiscovered talent out there.
February 6, 200718 yr I think in general it's a bad thing, Pop music is supposed to be this transitory, ephemeral thing that once it's gone it shouldn't really be laboured on, Pop is not meant to last forever, it is constantly changing, so groups that reform are really standing in the way of its progress and evolution.... Rock is a bit different, here longevity is a key element to Rock.. And there are some bands that people have listed that have unfinished business - My Bloody Valentine for example never really split up as such, they just went into hibernation and never bothered to wake up, there is still something there that needs to be acted on.. Same goes for Pixies really... If Dinosaur Jr reform, will it be a J Mascis and Lou Barlow team up..? If not, then there's no point to it...

I wonder what you think of this story: Led Zeppelin to reform - according to the Sun Normally, I would post it, but due to the source, I expect a denial by this time tomorrow. Still I'd love it to be true to shut up all those silly people who think Queen are the greatest Rock Band ever.

How could you seriously have Zep without John Bonham anyway...? Wasn't his death the main reason for the band splitting up in the first place....? I take your general point about Zep showing up Queen though.... There really is no contest... Queen never wrote a damn thing that could compare with "Kashmir", "The Immigrant Song", "Dazed and Confused" or "Stairway To Heaven"....
