Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. proudly joins in as Memphis Celebrates 50 Years of Soul, a milestone in the history of our city's rich musical legacy and its global influence.

With tremendous gratitude and abiding respect we salute all the gifted songwriters, singers, musicians, producers and business leaders who made soul music happen in a big way in Memphis and took that groove out to the world.

exhibit includes original acetates from a couple of his sessions,

his Fender Jazz bass and more.

Elvis at Stax Recording Studio

Elvis's series of recording sessions at Stax in July and December of 1973 came on the heels of the triumph of his global television special Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii earlier that year. The Stax sessions produced a collection of R&B, pop, rock, country and gospel material that comprised a special chapter in Elvis's recording catalog. Elvis called upon the talents of some of his usual stage and studio collaborators and some Stax regulars.

The albums Good Times, Raised on Rock and Promised Land and several singles emerged from these sessions. Standout tracks include It's Midnight, I Got a Feelin' in My Body, If You Talk in Your Sleep, Help Me, My Boy and a splendid rocking cover of the Chuck Berry classic Promised Land. Later compilations containing some of Elvis's Stax recordings are Rhythm and Country and, on the Follow That Dream collectors label, Made in Memphis.
