Sway and Madness team up

added: 8 Feb 2007 // by: Marco Gandolfi

Veteran rockers Madness have teamed up with one of UK Hip-hop’s brightest talents, Sway, on their new single, ‘Sorry.’

The single - which is due for release on March 5 - can currently be heard on the band’s ‘Madspace’ page.

Speaking about the collaboration Sway said: “I've always wanted to do something with them; it's an honor for me."

Oh dear, Sway's career is almost over. Now it's the desperate collaboration phase.

Shame, he could have been good, but rap kids in the UK are still obsessed with the c**p that comes over from the States.

was waiting to see what the reply was for this as obv the person who posted it doesnt know who the f*** sway is and has posted it here because of the madness connection (and teletext said that it was just gonna be that 'man off the telly' Suggs)

however seeing as it hasnt been moved to the R&B, Hip hop and Soul area we could argue:

1. as Sway is on an independent label, all indie labels (whatever the leftfield remit of the music genre is) are to be covered in the indie area.

Can we talk about Coldcut here? esp seeing as the dance area is full of cheesy $h!te

2. Madness are not really a ska group like everyone labels them as, they might have covered a few ska tunes a couple of years ago and have bought Prince Buster to a wider audience. but they are really more like Ian Dury, Blur and the Kinks.

if they are a ska band, shouldnt they be moved to also to the urban area seeing as there is no home for Reggae

Heh heh - I was thinking the same thing.

Difference is - I like both Sway and Madness. I don't agree they should be in the indie section, but I'm not offended by it.

Like I am with Fall Out Boy. Ooooooh it makes my blood boil. Stick them back in metal / punk cos that's what they claim to be.

They're total Kerrang! poster boys.

Anyway, I think Metal / Punk is rather badly named anyway. What on earth do The Clash share with Iron Maiden? In what way are The Buzzcocks like Deep Purple? If I were posting about either The Clash or Buzzcocks I would put it in this forum right here.

Only the likes of Bad Religion should be in that forum and they're more hardcore anyway.

Is this 'punk' like The Offspring and Blink 182 then?

Hmm...

it not the point of liking something and not liking something (i like FOB and have the se album) it more a point of knowing where something should be and not being too lopsided with most of the stuff that comes from that side being in here displaing all the stuff that gets to number 98 in the charts just because of personal taste and hatrid

i kinda get where your coming from. its more like a gulf between the UK and USA innit?

from docs about that time in history it seems that the Punk in the UK in the late 1970s was more of an ideaolism, of doing it for yourself, policital change and also encompased people like the clash and buzzcocks who people wouldnt say looked like punks (and also bizarrely eviljazzfunkfreak overlord mick hucknell * probably on the right below  ).

on the other hand in the us a, being the epicenter of comercialism, its like someone at a big corporation has thought 'oh yeah, that johnny rotten look, yeah thats cool, we can sell that a lot'. image more than music. perhaps

actaully i think they too would have to be in here as well as they would be seen as cartoon punks as well. I was reading the review of American Hardcore: History Of American Punk: 1980 - 86 a new rhino compilation and they think all these have watered down the template.

I know who Sway is, who doesn't?

I did post this in the indie forum as it's actually Madness's song so I thought this was the best forum possible. :D

I actually really like the song, sounded a lot better when I first heard it but I think that's because I've overplayed it slightly.

Yeah, I guess we'll never get it right :D

Yup, Mick Hucknall was a punk - in the Frantic Elevators - and apparently he was one of the few at the legendary Sex Pistols Free Trade Hall gig in Manchester...but he lost the plot very quickly indeed!

Yeah, I guess we'll never get it right :D
