ooh kathyp returning they really must have rattled you ,i know the feeling i felt like that just a few weeks ago in the minogue forum but i held back althoug hhad i seen the person in the flesh i really would have gave them a mouthful,,luckily norma me and you dont have that problem we are lucky enough that we can debate talk and sort things out before anything to bad sets in,we do it the adult way :heart:

 

I posted a little retort. Kathy is pacified and she doesn't feel ready to come back yet. Norma has won the struggle of the personalities! :lol:

Iris ... I've really upset some people on TTTV! As if I give a toss! I dared to say that as much as I like Take That ... they (and Robbie) are really 'of the moment', in 50 years time they won't be held (musically) with the same esteem as The Beatles. You wouldn't believe how arsey people can get. I mean ... I like The Circus, Beautiful World and I'm sure there are Rob fans out there who love Life Through a Lens and Rudebox ... but at the same time, those of us who can look objectively can see that they're not albums to change the world ... like Sgt Pepper's or Revolver. Its no sleight on TT or Rob ... I'd include Elton John, Rod Stewart, Oasis, George Michael, Stereophonics, etc, etc in this list.

 

Please say you agree! You're the only other poster on TTTV who can look objectively at the music - along with me of course! :lol:

Where have you post that? I must say the new forum still goes on my nerves - i find nothing there! :arrr:

 

And naturally that they are not Beatles, very few bands made it to the level... Even Queen has not such an influence in music while they were very good - they was more a genial nische (that is my impression)...

 

I think that the music industry don't allow such an experiment like Beatles done anymore. They developed themselves, tryed new sound. Now you must sell, there is no place for experiments which can scare the fans - especially in pop. What you did in the first 2 years - that are you forever. Take Oasis, they have not much developed their sound, they deliver what they are expected to deliver. Take REM, Metallica, even U2. The same story... I see in Take That (funny isn't it?) very much potential to develop, but they must find courage themselves to do it. There is a lot to explore in sounds, a lot of influences to try. They wouldl lose a lot of fans and only probably they will get new ones.

Of course I was a bit brutal ... of course their fans will remember them ..... but they, and Rob, won't be remembered by the general public as having offered anything new. Incidentally I include Elton John, Oasis, George Michael, and a myriad of other performers (including the Rolling Stones even) in there who although they will be remembered ... no-one can say they contributed anything ground-breaking to music, and in particular, British music, as the Beatles did. I actually LIKE Take That more than the Beatles - but that doesn't make me daft enough to say that they or their music is on a par with The Beatles. Neither Take That nor Rob fans can claim that their stuff is of the standard of Lennon & McCartney ... and any Take That / Rob fan who says otherwise is kidding themselves.

 

Perhaps I should have worded it a bit more sensitively though ... the Take That and Rob fans over there are terribly touchy! :lol:

I'm sure you'll have lots of opportunities to come to my defence in the future ... we do seem (apart from a song or two here and there) to agree on the music! I too, can't stand it when they all talk of 'great pics' ... its the music and the talk I want to know about!

 

Iris ... can I say how glad I am that you've come back to the TT forum! You really do brighten it up!

Really cold. And the snow has been quite heavy - although in the North West where I am ... not as bad as other parts of the country. The South seems to have got the worst of it. I still managed to get to work today and my son't school wasn't closed so I'm quite happy!
