February 12, 200718 yr Chartifacts (thanks to Gavin Ryan) For a third week Hinder remain at the top of the Australian Charts with their single "Lips of an Angel". It's been awhile since there has been an MOR American Rock Group at the top of the Aussie Charts, the last time was back in September 2004 when Maroon 5 was at the No.1 position for 5 weeks with the song "She Will Be Loved". Hinder are the 17th American Group this decade to place a song at the top of our charts, and their album "Extreme Behavior" is released this week. Whilst the Top 5 single remain stable, last weeks highest new entry jumps from 10 to 6: Gia Farrell's "Hit Me Up". Also making their Top 10 debut is this week's No.2 and No.3 single in the UK and US respectively from Fall Out Boy, "This is Ain't a Scene, it's an Arms Race". The highest of five new entries this week comes in at No.15 from P.Diddy featuring Christina Aguilera, "Tell Me". The song is the second single from his "Press Play" album, the first was "Come to Me" which reached No.11 last October. This song was a recent Top 10 in the UK in January, and hit No.47 in the US in December. Anthony Callea debuts at No.19 with "Addicted to You", his second single from his recent second album "A New Chapter". It's his lowest charting single so far, all of his previous five singles all reaching or debuting within the Top 10. His last single was the No.9 hit from October 2006, "Live for Love", and he kicks off a National tour on February 23rd. From the No.11 album this week (The Black Parade), My Chemical Romance debut with their second Australian Top 50 single "Famous Last Words". The New Jersey rockers are still in the charts at No.17 with "Welcome to the Black Parade", which has been hovering in the Top 20 for 13 of it's 17 weeks on the charts. Keeping up their quota of 2 singles within the Top 50, Eskimo Joe from Perth debut at No.26 with "New York". Their first single and title track from this weeks No.9 album "Black Fingernails, Red Wine" which reached No.6 is still charting after 38 weeks at No.41 this week, and it's follow-up "Sarah" (No.12, Oct 2006), falls out of the Top 50 this week. The group has been nominated for 7 WAMi Awards (West Australian Music Industry Awards), and have been asked to be special guests for the night where they'll be performing an acoustic set for the awards night on February 21st. The first single for The Lovin' Spoonful on the Australian Charts in 1966 was the No.13 hit entitled "Daydream". This week's No.50 debut by Lupe Fiasco feat Jill Scott called "Daydreamin'" takes it's main loop from that song. Lupe was last on our charts back in April 2006 as a guest vocalist on the Kanye West No.10 single "Touch the Sky". The 542nd No.1 album in Australia is still the same after four weeks at the top of the Album Charts, that is Snow Patrol's "Eyes Open". And with Radio playing their new single on high rotation, "Open Your Eyes", and their upcoming Australian tour in a week (starting February 17th in Perth), the album should be at the top of the charts for quite a few more weeks. The biggest climbing single this week is Bloc Party's "The Prayer" which jumps from No.37 to No.20, and their first Australian album entry (but second album) debuts at No.2, "A Weekend in the City". The album is expected to top the UK charts this week, where their single jumped into the Top 5 in it's second week. Two current/recent tourists to our shores see their albums go back up the charts this week. The Scissor Sisters have one more week of shows, and their former No.1 album "Ta-Dah" jumps from 26 to 19 this week. Also Eric Clapton's "Clapton Chronicles" moves from 22 to 16 to give that album it's highest position ever. Also debuting at No.43 is his collaboration album with J.J. Cale "The Road to Escondido". Lastly, Kylie Minogue opened her costume exhibition in London this past week, and her recently released live album of her Australian shows from late last year debuts at No.28 in the form of the "Showgirl Homecoming Live" album.
