Posted April 11, 200619 yr This was on the official forums and i agree 110% with everything thats been said - thought you might like a read!! Thanks to Selina!! :) Its a long read but worth it, hopefully something will come of this!! Okay…new news is flooding the forum; it’s been a while, hasn’t it? And it’s great that the forum finally has substance after months and months of attempts at threads in DG Related which really don’t have any point. Anyway, methinks it’s time for a reality check UK-wise and damn do I hope somebody from Sony…or someone official with the power to sort things out/explain things is reading this thread. I don’t care much for replies and this post is gonna be long but if I don’t say anything I’m gonna go nuts. If you’re not willing to read the following since its not positive then stop reading now and click back on your browser, I’m not doing this to put a downer on things or make things negative. I’m just stating the truth. So…I will jump on my soapbox and begin: The last time we had a music release here was in 2004 and that was OOTB (I’m not including AH because it wasn’t a solo release). So…since then we have had precisely nothing…that’s right, absolutely nothing. Not one ounce of anything…man, I cannot stress this enough and it sucks. Well, the release side of this situation hasn’t been difficult to summarise has it? Because of this I think it is safe to say that precisely nothing is what we can expect in the foreseeable future…over here anyways. There might be new releases in Australia and maybe even in the States (which does look doubtful at the moment) but not here. To back this up I have compiled a list of factors: 1) The ‘Official’ UK site was last updated back when the Mistaken Identity album was released…hell, the competition is still apparently running, but let’s not expect any mail saying we’ve won anything if we’ve entered. 2) The Deltagoodrem.com homepage with the ‘community’ flags. Well…this is a laugh. The German flag has completely disappeared, now the States flag is on the page. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve nothing against the States…but why is their flag in front of the UK one? I thought they were there in some sort of order. I know this is almost irrelevant but I don’t see why the UK flag can’t be in the middle instead of being pushed to the end. For me it seems like it’s on its way off of the page, you know? And since the German flag has gone it doesn’t look good. 3) Sony BMG’s Official site – there is no mention of Delta as one of their artists, need I say more? 4) Something small…but still annoying – the d/l for Be Strong, LNOE etc. Now, this was an official download and UK fans were more than willing to pay the money in order to d/l it legally and in turn help sales in Aus – but could we? Could we heck. We reside in the wrong country. If we can buy singles from overseas then I don’t see any reason why we can’t d/l songs from overseas. There is no sense in that whatsoever. 5) This whole ‘breaking America’ thing. I’m all for it, I want Delta to be as successful as possible, but what is happening there? Delta has been in the UK for months residing with her boyfriend, there was all of this buzz with a new version of LWY and a new video to go with it…but what happened to the release? We’ve had ‘it’ll be released on this date….or on this date…or maybe next year’ and we all know that when Sony mucks around with dates it means that no release will materialise. The album will be released in 2006…yeah, right. 6) The situation with ALTL – how annoying was that? We were told it would be released in the UK, we were told the apparent date of release, there were sigs everywhere and everyone here was excited…for nothing. The release date was pushed back time and time again until there was nothing. Why were we given false promises? 7) The tour DVD, again this is a little thing but I still think it’s kind of relevant. All of the previous Delta DVDs were advertised and promoted as PAL, not any region code, simply PAL, which meant it could be played in any country. Why was the tour DVD commercialised as Region 4? What was different this time? I know region 4 will also play in the UK etc – so why not just say it’s PAL like the others? So…those are the reasons I can think of off of the top of my head. There are probably more but I’m guessing you are bored reading this now….or sleeping. For the record, I just want to make it clear that I have nothing against Delta releasing music in Australia or the States, but I don’t see why we shouldn’t be included. When IE and NM,NI were released off of the IE album they both sold very well even though there wasn’t any promotion for them – doesn’t that prove that Delta made an impact here and had a decent fan base who would still buy her music even if she couldn’t be here to promote it? Even with OOTB there was no promotion and it still made top 20. I refuse to accept the ‘media’ as a reason for Delta not releasing here. It’s a stupid excuse and all of the c**p subsided a long time ago. There is no reason why Delta couldn’t release something here. There never has been. Yes, there was some ill-feeling with the press back when AH was released, and for the record I think the only reason that song was successful was because of the press surrounding it – the lyrics were awful. Every artist gets c**p with the press at some point but that doesn’t mean it’s an excuse to stop releasing music. The press does not reflect our opinion. Delta’s success with the IE album proved she has a good fan base here – and the fact we are still supporting her wherever she is proves that we will still be the first ones in the shops buying Delta’s new music….so why isn’t there any new music to buy? We’re still here and still waiting patiently for some sort of news….but as time goes on more and more people will just stop trying because we’re not getting anywhere. This isn’t because we don’t support Delta, it’s because we’re not getting the opportunity to. And a little memo to Sony: Delta didn’t need to do that duet to be successful, if anything that duet wrecked her career here. We were, and are more than content with listening to Delta sing her songs on her own. She’s a solo artist, not part of a duo. Bad move, Sony. I'm not blaming Delta for this, i'm blaming the record company...which is why I wont be at all surprised if this thread gets deleted/I get banned. So yeah...i'm gonna get off of my soapbox now...if I do get banned then at least I got to say what I think of the situation here. Updated *Edited to change most recent release from 2003 to 2004 - typed wrong number lol. It's still 2 years though. And just to clarify (coz i'm not going to bump this up) - I'm not complaining that Delta is focusing on the States or wherever else. I've clearly stated i'm in full support of that. I'm complaining that nothing has been done for Delts to release here, and I will say again - I don't blame Delta personally for any of this. I blame Sony and I will continue to do so until something is done about this. At the end of the day Sony control where/when/what releases happen etc. - and when I look at the bigger picture so to speak (which by the way I already did), it's clear to see that nothing is happening over here, they're not even bothering to try. I could understand Sony's reasons behind it if they were worth bothering with. Sony have mucked up Delta's UK career massively with the duet - and that's the bigger picture. They wanted to cash in on two artists with one release - and they did, but at the cost of Delta's UK career. It's that simple. On the face of things Delta is 'focusing' elsewhere when in fact they're just too damn lazy to bother putting any effort into Delta's UK career and making things happen because they know they mucked up (and that's putting it lightly...man am I gonna get banned lol). They just don't seem to have any faith in Delta whatsoever. I could probably do a better job than they are currently doing - and that's saying something. Delta might have said on the radio that she wants to release here - but that doesn't necessarily mean it will happen. I remember Delta saying it before - didn't make a blind bit of difference. Regarding Sek612's comments about the websites - I know they are limited to what can go there - but this is 2 years now, you'd think they could give us some news or give us an idea about what's happening. Regarding Matthew's comment about the DVD - our release was nowhere near as good as the Aus release ( I have them both but that's irrelevant) - I don't understand why they couldn't be the same, we're all fans for goodness sake - why are we different because of which country we happen to reside in? Why do we get so much less content? I only ever saw PAL advertising for the Delta dvd...the only mention of Region 4 I personally saw was the Visualise Tour DVD....so I might have just missed the Region 4 commercialising for the 'Delta' DVD. As I said earlier about the media - it's old news, there's nothing but positive press about Delta these days, and that has been the trend for months. The press doesn't represent the fans' views - so, as i've said earlier - pathetic excuse. Delta was treated badly by the press - but we didn't do that, we have defended Delts at every single opportunity and we still do, so why are we getting punished for the media/Sony's mistakes? Michelle - I know you will wait patiently, that goes without saying - i'm doing the same but this had to be said. There've been light hearted jokes and joke attempts by members here to kick-start things again here...but it's no fun when nothing ever happens. I'm sure there are a majority of the dedicated UK fans who will continue to wait indefinately; I know you and I, among others, will - but that's not to say that others wont - and that will do nothing for Delta's fan base here. As Michelle said, she has the mean to access Aus releases etc, I do too....but others can't and then they miss out on that much more. I guess myself and others can at least almost substitute for the lack of UK music by getting the Aus releases etc. where possible - but others can't so it's not an ideal solution at all. Love, Kirsty xx
April 11, 200619 yr That's so bizarre as I was just reading that this evening! I totally agree with it too. The label have massively ****ed up with her in the UK and the fact her official UK site hasn't been updated in about 18 months is shocking. Even a release of the Visualise DVD would have been something, just so those people who love her in the UK who can't use the net could at least get it. We know Delta wants to release here too, as she did with ALTL, but Sony wouldn't let her :(
April 11, 200619 yr Also, I'm quite surprised the lock-happy mods there didn't close the thread instantly :o
April 12, 200619 yr I agree with what has been said and through the number views alone which that topic has received it will not go unnoticed and hopefully delta will see it. It has also made me loose any hope f delta releasing in the UK again :( she better!
