Inspired by the Sex Pistols in 1977 Green Gartside put together Scritti Politti and toured as support for Joy Division. After a heart scare in 1980 he re-invented the band and the first singles were released in 81/82, The sweetest girl, and then Faithless and Asylums in Jerusalem, both of which topped the UK indie chart.

A change of style again in 1984 resulted in Wood Beez (pray like Aretha Franklin) , The word girl and Absolute. A period of recluse for 3 years resulted in the hit “Oh Patti( don’t feel sorry for loverboy)â€

The best thing he ever did was 'She's a Woman' with Shabba Ranks.

Well, no, not really. Apparently his last album was great, but I, like everyone, couldn't be arsed to listen to it.

Wood beez was a huge hit in Australia. Top 10 for weeks. Madness did an awful cover of The Sweetest Girl and (best of all) Green Gartside did a duet with Kylie on Body Language.

 this also has eg white co-writes

Yeah!!! Great stuff. The song was called Someday, one of the most under-rated Kylie songs ever. I love the bit where Green's vocal comes in. Classic :)

My favourite track of his was:

Scritti Politti - Absolute (1984)

I also loved Wood Beez & Oh Patti. I was never keen on The Word Girl nor what I heard of his recent album.
