With the huge hit “Tainted Love†the synth drive duo who were into northern soul certainly made an impact in 1981. Their first album “Non stop erotic dancing†certainly contained a few hits. The press loathed Almond’s overly stylized mannerisms, and he certainly was not one to get try and get his view over. Between records not being played because of the lyrics and a poor world tour and the critics after him, the folded in 1984. A solo career for Almond followed.

That'd be 'Non Stop Erotic Cabaret'. Yeah, great band. Shame they're generally only remembered for 'Tainted Love' as there were some other crackers.

Worth tracking down the extended 12" mix of 'Tainted Love' which is a medley with 'Where Did Our Love Go?'

Their finest song was either Bedsitter or Say Hello Wave Goodbye

there was this thing about urban myths i was reading about,

and it said that there is this 'famous' belly-pumped rumour of special liquid being found in Marc Almond

and that this was first used about people like David Bowie in the 1970 with loads of other flamboyant glam stars

I'm sure Marc Almond's had plenty 'special liquid' in his belly.

The stomach pump story isn't true.... it's worth reading Tainted Life, Almond's autobiography which is miles and away the best, most insightful and funny account of fame I've ever read.... his descent into drugs is told in terrifying graphic detail, but it's all told in Almond's inimitable bittersweet style - a true must-read for fans and non-fans alike..... and it's interesting to read the band were off their faces on ecstasy recording Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret - in 1981!

My personal faves were the darker later Soft Cell stuff.... Soul Inside and Dowen in the Subway were terrific singles, much better than Tainted Love (which even Almond himself loathes). Their Art of Falling Apart album remains in my top 10 of all time, too - a wonderful album.

and Elton John/Rod Stewart/random glam rock person who was the orig???
