The most commercially successful and long-lasting group to emerge from the punk / new wave scene.

 

Melody Maker famously said in 1975 about them, “The only way they can be classed as new wave is that no-one has had the gall to palm off this rubbish before.â€

 

But by 1977 they had made the breakthrough with hits like Peaches, Go buddy go, Something better change and No more heroes. Further hits included Golden Brown, Strange little girl and European female.

 

As the years went on they seemed to lose their harder sound for a more mellow sound.

thought some of their later material was really good.. 'skin deep', 'always the sun'.. i liked the punk stuff as well..

To me they were one of those "every-body's 4th favourite band type of thing".

 

Of course they made some great music. I preferred their early work although I loved "Always The Sun".

 

However my favourite Strangles track is:
