Formed by John Foxx in 1976 they burst onto the new wave scene were well known as a live act but could get no commercial success. By 1979 Foxx had had enough and left to persue a solo career, his replacement was Midge Ure. Almost immediately hit records appeared . Hits like Sleepwalk, Passing Strangers, Vienna (kept of the top spot by Joe Dolce), All stood still, The voice, Reap the wild wind and We came to dance.

By the end of 1984 the hits dried up. Midge Ure tried to save the world with Bob Geldof and the rest sort of disappeared.

Ure turned up with Steve Strange in Visage and had a hit with “Fade to grey†in 1981.

No Ultravox, no 'If I Was' by Midge Ure - what a tune!

Oh, and if you fancy a laff, track down Vic Reeves' cover of 'Vienna'. Hilarious!
