Has anyone here read the Q interview withBrandon Flowers this month?

It's such a bad interview, he comes acroiss so dismally, it's enough for me to never want to hear the band ever again.

Here's some excerpts...

(about being a Mormon)

"I meet people all the time who say "I was raised Mormon", as if to say "I was raised Mormon but I'm cool now"... They don't know that I'm still into it."

Q. Mormonism is perceived as anti-gay. Anything that goes against procreation is supposedly the work of the devil... but you're fascinated with gay pop culture and your fans include Neil Tennant and Elton John...?

A. I don't really think about it (?!?!?!) I've always been a fan of gay pop stars.

(totally dodging THAT question, then)...

Q. Some fans assumed you WERE gay - until your marriage sort of disproved that - how did that feel?

A. I felt like I was doing my job. (WHAAAAAAT???) I'm a huge Morrissey and Bowie fan (AND???) I'm doing something right here! And then... I don't know - it wore off. I realise how much work it must be to keep up something like that. People have done it - I didn't want to do it. I just know that I tried for an album and I'm done (laughs)... so forgive me. I love my wife. If want to have kids, it's not something I wanted to play around with (WHAT - IS HE INSINUATING BEING GAY IS SHAMEFUIL... AND SOMETHING TO PLAY AROUND WITH BECAUSE HE THINKS IT'S COOL TO DO SO??) I wasn't even trying to do it - it just sort of happened.

Three days later, Flowers is uneasy about that last part of the interview we did.

"The whole gay and Mormon thing.... I have a lot of gay friends (THAT OLD CHESTNUT). I want to stay away from the religion thing - I don't want to offend anyone" he says, warily. He knows he is on very dangerous ground. He's finding it hard to be open and honest.

In the interview, he also defends George Bush...

Maybe Flowers is someone who should only open his mouth to sing.....? One more interview like this one and I reckon The Killers will be history.....

How dare he has an opinion?? You can disagree with everything he's saying, but the fact that you hate his music because of what he says, says it all about you...

And if people turn their back at The Killers because their frontman speaks his mind, then I don't know what the world expect from musicians... they're supposed to entertain us with their music, not to be role models for people.

And the little comments you added next to his answers were utterly annoying.

Yeah, but if a musician comes across as a dick, then it doesn't really matter how cool the tunes are really, it's always gonna be in the back of your mind "this guy is a bit of a dick...".

Defending the mass murderer/war criminal George Bush is enough to get me hating just about anyone.... Having opinions is one thing defending a mass-murdering war criminal, liar and crook is quite another... Would you respect a musician who defended someone like Himmler, Pol Pot, Bin Laden or Stalin...? Same thing really in essence.... Sorry, the guy is a total c**k.... Never liked The Killers anyway to be honest...

Big respect to Dixie Chicks though.... Not really a fan of the music, but the attitude is spot on...

It is non of my business what he thinks. The musician can be entitled to his opinion and the only thing I can judge him for is the music he makes, cause that's his job.

We're not involved with the bands/acts/singers we like further than listening to their records. Why would we stop listening to them if we really like their songs or albums? Because they have a different opinions than the ones I have?, we can't all agree in this world and I don't look for people to discuss about serious problems when it comes to music, I just want to be entertained by the records.

Aww bless he's stupid... :)

I love their music don't care about that interview too much.

Ps, I'm very glad the person that wanted this forum got one in the end.

oh dear... well, i'm not gonna stop listening to their music because of this, i need to read the full interview to make up my mind although i'm not very impressed with him defending Bush.

It's not an opinion when basically what he's saying is everything he was up til Sam's Town was a fake... he played the part of being fey, camp and effeminate, of pretending to be gay when in fact, his religion deems gays to be absolutely abhorrent. That's NOT an opinion - that's an admittance that you're TOTALLY fake.

And yes, an artists opinions obviously change the way you listen to their music.... how shallow can you be if you think otherwise??

And you're naive in the extreme to think that musicians are not role models for the young.... remember, more people voted in the XFactor finals in the UK than in the last General Election - says it all, really.

And as for my comments after Flowers' comments - surely they couldn't be any less annoying than your shallow blind faith?

***EDIT***

I had made an extensive post continuing the discussion, but I decided to edit it and end it here. We could go for ages arguing about this and getting nowhere, cause I won't change my mind and you won't change yours either.

This forum is not intended for arguements, it is for discussions, but this one was going a little further with myself calling you 'annoying' and you calling me 'shallow', etc.

Spot on mate... Going around, pretending to be gay while really having a bit of a contempt for the lifestyle is really fukkin' hypocritical.. I remember when Suede's Brett Anderson used to do the whole 'camp act', but he never had any religious views or convictions, so he kinda got away with it... And anyway, he was bi so....

I've read the comments I pointed out on several other music boards, too, and people seem to be saying the same thing... Flowers really must regret giving such a numbskull interview as this Q one, it's done his, and The Killers', reputation no end of harm. And, much as I quite like the band, rightly so, I think, I'll never listen to them with the same joy again..... :(
i bought this magazine y'day still haven't read the interview though but i really hope it's not as bad as some of you guys are making out :(
ok, so i read this interview the other day, and i honestly do not think it is THAT bad, call me a blind/obssessive fan or whatever, but hey it's probably true. i don't agree with what he said on the whole gay issue, yes it is a bit hypocritical of him but it's not gonna make me feel any different when i listen to the music; it's the music itself that evokes the listeners feelings, not brandon's comments. also, he never actually defends George Bush, he says that, unlike other bands, he refuses to say "F**k" on stage and will definitely not say "F**k George Bush" to generate bigger hype/reaction because it's easy to just say it to provoke a reaction. to me that's fair enough really.

Same. I feel the same as you do, actually.

I guess the hype and bad press were way bigger than anything the interview actually said. It always happens <_<
