March 2, 200718 yr Why should I waste my time showing you something that is already in the thread. Because it´s not on the thread and you acuse me of false things. If you want to criticize someone for sayng something the least you can do is quote that.
March 2, 200718 yr i think if allegations are made against anybody the the poster should post the quote to support their allegations... this will stop any mis-reprisentation and silly bickering on any thread.. :)
March 2, 200718 yr I didn´t think the word "homo" was offensive at all... At least not in my language, it´s just an abreviation of the word homossexual. Please dont hide behind that whole 'language misunderstanding' thing, anyone with a brain and who has seen enough US TV shows and Films knows that 'Homo' is a derogatory term, like 'f*****' or 'poof'.....
March 3, 200718 yr Please dont hide behind that whole 'language misunderstanding' thing, anyone with a brain and who has seen enough US TV shows and Films knows that 'Homo' is a derogatory term, like 'f*****' or 'poof'..... actually, i dont agree scott, whilst the latter 2 are clearly a derogatory term, 'homo' is often used as a shortend form of 'homosexual' (which of course you know), its a correct term unless its delivered in an offensive way. tbh i think the term 'gay' is more derogatory... but i guess i grew up when 'gay' meant happy and not homosexual!

Sorry mate I've never heard any gay person refer to themselves or another gay person as 'homo' (well, okay, Quentin Crisp I suppose and the whole "Britain's Stately Homo" reference, but he was clearly taking the p!ss there and turning the insult back on the insulter) ... The gay community has reclaimed phrases such as 'queer' (in much the same way as many African Americans have reclaimed the word 'n***er', but it would still be incredibly offensive if a white person said it in reference to a black person regardless..), but I haven't heard of them reclaiming the phrase 'homo' to any great degree.
March 4, 200718 yr ...but i dont think its a derogatory term unless its delivered as such.. what do the gay guys think?..
March 5, 200718 yr Please dont hide behind that whole 'language misunderstanding' thing, anyone with a brain and who has seen enough US TV shows and Films knows that 'Homo' is a derogatory term, like 'f*****' or 'poof'..... Oh well I don´t watch much american tv shows and films, except when they are translated into my language
March 10, 200718 yr ...but i dont think its a derogatory term unless its delivered as such.. what do the gay guys think?.. Rob, if you truly don't think 'homo' is an offensive term.... well... I can assure you, in whatever context, it's extremely offensive... akin to 'poof' or 'queer'....
March 11, 200718 yr I just looked at the advertising on the bottom of this page and they have one like this: Are people born gay? Learn more with 100s experts pros & cons in a nonpartisan format. www.borngayprocon.org

I can assure you, in whatever context, it's extremely offensive... akin to 'poof' or 'queer'.... ..And there we have it... Although, hasn't the term 'queer' been reclaimed by the Gay community to a large extent..? I seem to remember one of the slogans that gay rights protestors in the US would use was "We're Here, We're Queer, Get Used to it"....
