February 20, 200718 yr Well it's definitely art but i struggle with the definitions of 'good art' 'bad art' . . . art is, well, for art's sake. Without knowing too much of their stuff, although I recall them from their Turner Prize days, they seem to draw from a lot of influences, from the Surrealism / Dadaism of artists such as Salvador Dali, through the Pop Art of Andy Warhol, and contemporary graphic design and have no doubt had some influence on other contemorary artists themselves. Art . . . pretentious? ^_^
February 20, 200718 yr I really like most of their stuff... I have a few books of theirs - some of it is pretentious twaddle, most of it is beautiful.... they're an odd pair, though.
February 21, 200718 yr Most of the best art is by its very definition rather pretentious and ostentacious... Look at Michaelangelo's Sistine Chapel..... Gloriously, wonderfully pretentious, the product of absolute genius, totally without any function in reality, but would we really have it any other way....?
