Posted February 18, 200718 yr This is a fabulous book with loads of backstage insight into life on the road with Elvis. Published by Elvis International Books and by Darwin Lamm. First printed 2002. The publisher’s notes explain that the book started life as an audio tape of D.J. telling the stories and thankfully they have left the stories alone, so that we the fans can get a feeling for the way it was. The book also comes with a bonus CD with some of that audio tape of D.J. with a “Sun Records†type backing track and to quote the publisher, it makes you feel “you were there in the Cadillac along for the ride with Elvis in the backseatâ€. With an introduction from Scotty Moore we set off on a journey with D.J., from chapter one “The Beginning" through all sorts of stories and adventures across the states, from the “Louisiana Hayride†to “The Comeback Special†and from “Life On the Road†to “T.V. Showsâ€, “Movie Years†and “Recording With Elvis†and all points in-between. All accompanied with some great photographs (many rare) lots that I’ve never seen and a good many from Al Wertheimer so you’ll know they are quality shots. I would recommend this book to any and all Elvis fans, and fans of Rock n Roll generally. It has a great feel to it not unlike the playing of its illustrious author/drummer. I suggest you buy it from D.J.’s website http://www.djfontana.com/ Run very efficiently by his wife Karen (I received my book 3 days after ordering), you can also keep up with what D.J. is doing gig wise in the coming months and there are lots of other goodies for sale on there too. And who knows you may be lucky like me and get a signed copy from the great man himself. Edited February 20, 200718 yr by lonesome cowboy
