Posted February 20, 200718 yr Sweet smell of success Fans might think her haircut stinks, but a G.I. Jane 'do hasn't hurt sales of Britney Spears' perfumes. The four scents - Curious, Fantasy, Midnight Fantasy and the ironically named In Control - were selling briskly yesterday with holiday shoppers. "She looks disgusting, but I would buy it because it smells good," said 18-year-old Laura Variso of New Jersey, who gave the scent a thumbs-up at the Herald Square Macy's. Variso says she used to be a Britney fan, but has outgrown the pop tart. "It's a nice perfume. I really don't care what she looks like," said 15-year-old Sarah Sayed, a tourist from Ireland who bought a bottle of In Control for $52.50. Sayed is a staunch Britney backer and tolerates her antics. "All the things she does now, I think she does for attention," she said. Sales clerks like Lisbeth Vasquez, who works at Perfumania in the Empire State Building, said Brit's latest slip-up won't affect sales. "They keep buying Paris Hilton's [perfume], and she's been doing this sort of thing for years," Vasquez said. "No one cares." But Maxine Hasbrough, 48, of Albany sniffed at the idea of buying one of Spears' signature scents, muttering, "I wouldn't buy her stuff. She's a twit." "We'll take a little hit," said Arthur Lopez, who hawks Spears' perfumes at Macy's for Elizabeth Arden, which owns the brand. "But people look at the smell, not the celebrity." The Brit brand may even be in for a boost. After buying two bottles, 36-year-old Lisa Sampson of Union County, N.J., noted: "I think she's making a power move. It takes a confident woman to cut all her hair off. Besides, it has a nice smell." SOURCE
