I was going to start another thread along the lines of the 80s lost songs but this time dealing with songs from the 90s.

But how recent is retro. I think anything upto 95 can now safely be considered retro but how about the rest of the 90s. Anybody got any thoughts?

I would say anything older than 10 years can be considered retro.

Anything which aint around any more or has been forgotten about.

For instance, I'd happily mention an early, forgotten single by Blur like 'Popscene' but I wouldn't mention 'Wonderwall' by Oasis in here, whether it's 10 years old or not.

So you think I can start off a lost songs of the 90s thread no probs then?

hi

we tend to count 'retro' as over 10 years old... many acts from the late 90's are often mentioned in other forums, pop in particular.

theres no any one cut off date, but we really dont want the likes of steps mentioned in here for several years yet! lol.

i see no reason why a forgotten 90's thread shouldnt be started..

but theres always the 70's, and 60's...:)

I would say anything older than 10 years can be considered retro.

it was 10 years ago when it was just a music section but then it was relaxed to anything in the last decade when the section was going quiet i think but it might be back to 1997 now its a general section for film, tv, music and games.

however i think it would be better if it was a general 60s, 70s and 80s area and all retroactive acts/heritage acts info ended up in here along with cult new release dvds etc

It's just that I don't know the lost music of the 60s and 70s as well but then again maybe I could start these up as well. I was thinking of making the 90s lost songs anything that was non top 40 only. That would avoid the likes of Steps  and S Club :puke2: adequately

I reckon 96/97 could be the cut-off point... because there were some tremendous lost tracks from the last decade....

well perhaps non top 20 would be better?.. i dunno...

i dont want to be invaded though by the younger peeps most of who already have their own op's.. (but anyone is welcome to post real retro, young or old.... funny though, most of the older peeps here dont actually post in here... i mean, anyone over 30 should have loads to say... grimly, jester, e-motion, mikey, craig... where are they?)

Right think I'll make it lost songs of the early 90s (upto the end of 96) which is ten years ago. I think that would seem to be an appropriate cut off point judging from people's posts above.

that would be good. however i dont know what is lost and what is not? is JD Souther and Karen Dalton lost for example or not. i was looking at the Karen Dalton 'long-lost' album reissued on cd and dvd (???) in Borders today

and would things like Love count or would everybody know that?

and something like genesis . would the stuff where its from the 1970s be known??

make it anything that people wouldnt know so i suppose this could also be a top ten hit if it spent like 2 weeks in the chart. something like blur most people would know so leave that out.

maybe some Supergrass instead?? also if you could dig up some Powder and Lodger, you probs know what your looking for (bush would probs be as bad as institute so none of that  )

grebo.... post away, ill delete any that are not pertainent :)

what???

I think it should be anything that isn't well known (even if it has been reissued recently)

Love are regularly included in best albums ever polls but if they had a song that you felt hadn't got the recognition it deserved. To my mind something better would be The Lollipop Shoppe or possibly The Chocolate Watch Band.

JD Souther and Karen dalton would seem to be ideal candidates. I have vaguely heard of JD Souther but I've never heard anything by him. Genesis? Maybe the Gabriel stuff but I personally think that's fairly well known but it's upto the poster really.

Supergrass? Lost? Don't think they would count but Powder and Lodger could be good. Was thinking of maybe Lush as well as they seem to have been largely forgotten but I guess I'll save this for the thread!

neither have i.

he and karen dalton were in the Stars that time forgot section in uncut the other month and i just notied the disc this morning.

i wouldnt know

(i just noticed Phil Collins is in that Buster film tonight)

well i thought of Supergrass as they seem to have loads of random #75 hits (???) in their hitography and they dont get mentioned in the way of blur, oasis and pulp these days.

btw talking of that thing there was a clip of a suede vid on a doc where they are in a council flat estate do you know what it is?

what???

simple.... if anyone starts posting about tracks that i dont think are suitable for 'retro', ill delete them! like it or not m8... there has to be some guidlines as to what 'retro' is otherwise all the effing steps fans will invade this bit talking about one of the very worst acts ever to grace the charts!

modern music has the rest of the site... :)

Personally, I would say 15 years should be the cut-off... The Early 90s seems to be period of time that has been forgotten the most in the mist... The mid-90s is still very much with us in many respects with the new wave of Britpop bands that we currently are 'enjoying'.....

i dont think we can impose a stringent cut off date, we just have to be sensible about it. if an artist is still current (overlooking re-unions) then they shouldnt be in here!

so should this topic about the 'reformation' of the jam be in here or not. should all the 'heritage acts' on things like Liberty and Sanctuary be moved into this area. even if they have a new record out or not. like i said before make it a dedicated 60s, 70 and 80s area.

So if I wanted to include a track by Beck then it would be frowned upon?
