Well seeing as the lost 80s songs thread seems to be going well, I thought that doing the same thing for the early 90s (up to the end of 96) would be a good idea. Any songs I post will not be Top 40 hits but I suppose it's up to the poster (and the mods!) what is included.

So without further ado here is my first selection.

1. Verve - Gravity Grave (Did not chart - 1992)

yes I know. The Verve!?! But this is definitely a lost classic that should have been number one for years on end.

2. Butthole Surfers - Pepper (#59 - 1996)

Just pure brilliance. How this wasn't a hit I'll never understand.

3. Adorable - Sunshine Smile (Did not chart - 1992)

As it says on the description on youtube "Adorable indie pop from England".

4. Veruca Salt - Seether (#61 - 1994)

Just another cool cool song that deserved so much better.

5. Electrafixion - Zephyr (#47 - 1994)

This is a completely forgotten band put together by Ian McCulloch and Will Sargeant after the demise of the Bunnymen. This album is just is so good and my other half just can't understand why this has completely faded away.

I think I'll leave lost pop songs to somebody else as I wasn't listening to much pop for most of the 90s seeing as we had Shoegazing, Grunge and Brit Pop to keep me occupied.

so will it be wiki first?

Wasn't Trick Baby called "Indie Anna"...or have I got them mixed up with Tripmaster Monkey...I think I might have.

Oh well...

Tripmaster Monkey - Indie Anna

The Dylans - Planet Love (such a fabulous indie pop song)

Flowered Up - It's On (reached a paltry number 38 when it should have been top 10)

Chumbawamba & Credit to the Nation - Enough is Enough!

Cornershop - Born Disco; Died Heavy Metal

Paris Angels - Perfume

James - Sound (I think this is a much better than Born of Frustration which tends to be remembered more from 'Seven')

one thing? instead of arguing whether it should inc records made in 1999 why didnt you start this thread in the indie and alternative rock area like Scott did with his countdown, if its all gonna be Lost Indie and alternative rock songs of the 1990s.

then you could do the 00s and 07 (this year there gonna be fricking loads thanks to the feeling)!!!!!

Well, it just reflects my taste.

But to balance things out a little bit...

Human Resource - Dominator

Definition of Sound - Wear Your Love Like Heaven

Dream Warriors - My Definition of a Boombastic Jazz Style

Gary Clail On-U Sound System - Human Nature

DNA - La Serennissima

Tricky Disco - Tricky Disco

SKin Up - Blockbuster

:)

Well, it just reflects my taste.

hey dude the complant wasnt directed at you

obv if your only one of 3 people using the indie zone  its gonna be high pc of indie tunes in here, however was just making the point in general as most of the threads in here seem to be the same kinda mildly alternative pop groups recently (or at least the names always cropping up in articles next to the words post-punk and 'angular rock').

btw here is Angélique Kidjo, who i would say probs be a bit unknown here in the narrow mainstream of bj!!!

4. Veruca Salt - Seether (#61 - 1994)

Just another cool cool song that deserved so much better.

I remember this one, great song. I have it on 7" vinyl.

Chumbawamba & Credit to the Nation - Enough is Enough!

I remember this one. It topped John Peel's Festive 50 (1992 i think).

5. Electrafixion - Zephyr (#47 - 1994)

I bought this & had it in mind when I was going to post some of the lost tracks of the 1990-1996.

OK - Here is the first batch of 5 lost songs from the 1990/96 that I can think of:

Suede - The Drowners (UK#49 1992) - Their fantastic debut single.

Aimee Mann - I Should've Known (UK#55 1993) - A Fantastic critically acclaimed US singer/songwriter who has never had the success her massive talent deserved..

PJ Harvey - Down By The Water (UK#38 1995) - Spent just 2 weeks in the Top75, the lead single taken from her best album IMHO - To Bring You My Love.

Jellyfish - New Mistake (UK#55 1993) - They were the Feeling of the early 1990s except they were much, much better & much much less successful.

Fiona Apple - Shadowboxer (1996 UK did not chart) - Fiona Apple is the biggest cult artist in America - she has released 3 albums of entirely self-penned material in 11 years. This track taken from her debut album "Tidal" helped her win the 1997 Grammy for best new act. In short she makes Amy Winehouse seem as sh1t and fake as Lily Allen in comparison. Forget contrived pap from USA University graduates with Business Studies or various Arts degrees like FOB or MCR this is real "Emo" music from the true heir to Kate Bush's throne.

Go over onto the "50 Indie Faves" that I did a while back on the Indie Forum, and you'll get an idea of what MY favourite lost early 90s tracks are....
I remember this one. It topped John Peel's Festive 50 (1992 i think).

1 year later in 1993, but yes...what a great single this was. Totally representative of Chumbawamba, unlike Tubthumping and throwing buckets of water over John Prescott.

Actually I'd probably also nominate Credit to the Nation's 'Call It What You Want' or 'Hear No Bull$h!t, See No Bull$h!t, Say No Bull$h!t' too.

of course we would never have thought of that! <_<

this forums retro, so we will talk about retro even if there is a crossover whereby a topic might qualify for more then one forums.

I said in the first post that I just listened to indie and rock in the early 90s and someone else would have to post those lost pop gems from the time. Now I am just as keen to find out about pop that I missed as well as indie and rock.
