Zhang Yimou's
Man cheng jin dai huang jin jia
or
Curse of the Golden Flower

has anybody seen this? if so was it was it on import? and was it a deluxe SE versh? cd-wow only seem to have an almost vanilla release and it would be cool if there's a SE versh to go with my House of Flying Daggers set.

....Like "Hero" and "House of Flying Daggers"..... Ho hum.... -_- I dunno, I'm getting a little weary of all these "spectacular" Mandarin Chinese heritage films with their "expressive" uses of colours, blah, blah, blah...... Oh look there's Chow Yun Fat, Gong Li, Zhang Ziyi, Jet Li, Tony Leung, Michelle Yeoh (delete as appropriate...). "Hero" was a pile of pro-dictatorship propaganda bollocks, "House of Flying Daggers" was pretty okay it has to be said, certainly a lot better than "Hero" or "Crouching Tiger..."; "Fearless" was okay, but nowhere near as interesting as it could have been.... I think these sorts of films are actually doing more harm than good to the growing Chinese film industry... Apparently the producers of "Curse of the Golden Flower" actually made cinemas in China sign contracts that they were only allowed to show that film for an entire month.... Christ, talk about attempting to strangle a potentially great modern national cinema at birth....... Really quite nasty tactics, not even a Hollywood studio would have the brass balls to do something like that (well, not in this day and age at any rate....). I dunno, I actaully think that "Raise The Red Lantern" was a far more effective Chinese heritage film, same for "Farewell My Concubine", both dealt with far more complex themes...

Curse of the Golden Flower opens on Friday.. I'll probably still go and see it, I'll probably be totally awestruck by the cinematography, the action sequences and the costumes, but ultimately I am expecting a rather empty shell wrapped in an elaborate, colourful package....

My mum saw it yesterday free with the Guardian.

I'm still wondering whether to see it at the cinema or go straight to get the LE box that i've found to go with my House of Flying Daggers box and see some Bollywood next week or just go see this straight off. However depends on cash as EzyDVD have just sent out the Bond Casino R Poker Set from Aus so thats gonna be £45 as well.

Did she like it...?

Thought it looked nice but a bit 'too gory' for her. Think Happy Feat is more her thing
