Following months of bizarre behaviour which culminated in her shaving off all her hair Britney entered Promises treatment centre in Malibu, California. She claimed it was because of a problem with 'lice'. A source said: "She thought lice were eating her hair extensions, so decided to get rid of them as soon as possible." This was her second attempt at rehab. Last week, she checked into Eric Clapton's Crossroads rehab clinic in Antigua - but again stayed only 24 hours. Britney's erratic behaviour seemed to have started in 2004 when she married childhood friend Jason Alexander. It was annulled after only 55 hours. Later that same year she married Kevin Federline, but filed for divorce last November and set off on a wild round of partying. But it was the head-shaving incident that seemed to prove she was over the edge. Britney reportedly sought rehab after a showdown with her mother, who was said to be at "breaking point". A source said: "Her mother cries and begs Britney to calm down, but Britney just yells at her and tells her to mind her own business." Britney had voluntarily checked herself into the luxurious rehab facility. Tucked into the Santa Monica mountains, Promises claims to offer "uncommon luxury" and boasts that it offers the "finest rehab programme in the world" It recently treated Mel Gibson for alcoholism and other clients have included Ben Affleck, Robert Downey Jr and Charlie Sheen.

The shaven-headed singer left a treatment centre in Malibu, California, on Wednesday, TMZ.com and TV shows Entertainment Tonight and Extra said. The previous day her manager Larry Rudolph said Spears had checked into rehab voluntarily. She reportedly spent just 24 hours in a facility in Antigua last week before shaving her head in front of onlookers. Rudolph had asked for privacy while she underwent this latest round of treatment. A spokesman for the public relations agency that handles the Malibu treatment centre said he had no comment and would not confirm that she had been there or that she had left. Since splitting with husband Kevin Federline last year, Spears has been making headlines with her partying lifestyle. On Tuesday, People's website quoted a statement by Spears' management which said: "Britney Spears has voluntarily checked herself into an undisclosed rehab facility today." Spears had her drastic haircut at Esther's Hair Studio in Tarzana, west of Los Angeles, on Friday, but was later seen wearing a blonde wig. The salon has set up a website to auction the hair for more than $1m (£512,500). A spokeswoman for the website said they had already received a number of bids. Custody agreement "We have received many offers and we are currently in the process of separating the real ones from the bogus ones," she told the BBC News website. The website, which offers bidders an "opportunity of a lifetime", says a portion of the proceeds will be donated to various unnamed charities. As well as the hair - which is pictured on the website - the winning bidder will also get the hair clippers Spears used, a blue lighter she left at the salon and the can of Red Bull she was drinking at the time. A lawyer for estranged husband Kevin Federline earlier confirmed that Spears and Federline would continue to share custody of 5-month-old Jayden James and 17-month-old Sean Preston this month, following terms of a January custody agreement.

Spears who was negoating her divorce settlement with her attorney was on strict visit there and back to her Promises Rehab.
