Posted February 24, 200718 yr the sound of liverpool c 62 - 65 headed by the beatles, but in this vibrant melting pot of a city several other acts had huge success with imho some bloody good pop songs! ok, they are dated now, but were once hip! gerry and the pacemakers had great tracks like 'how do you do it', 'i like it', the superb 'ferry cross the mersey', the anthemic 'youll never walk alone' (off the film carousel i believe) and the quite beautiful 'dont let the sun catch you crying' billy j kramer had 'do you want to know a secret', 'bad to me', 'ill keep you satisfied' and my fav 'little children' (whos lyrics these days wouldnt be allowed!!!) who/what were your fav merseybeat tracks?
February 24, 200718 yr Kinda remember Gerry & the pacemakers hits, how do you do it (this was turned down by both Adam Faith and the Beatles would you believe),I like it and You'll never walk alone. They were the first artist to get their first 3 singles to number 1. Quite liked Billy J Kramers hits Do you want to know a secret, Bad to me, I'll keep you satisfied and Little children. The Searchers had hits like Sweets for my sweet, Sugar and spice,Needles and pins and Don't throw your love away
February 28, 200718 yr The Merseybeats had a few good offerings. I Think Of You - Don't Turn Around - Wishin' & Hopin' - Sorrow (as The Merseys) One Liverpool band that were forgotten were Cryin' Shames. They had a #26 hit in 1966 with the brilliant Please Stay. This single is now rare and worth a few quid. The follow-up singles floped as did their one & only album. This album which includes the singles was the last session of music produced by the legendary Joe Meek before his death. Edited February 28, 200718 yr by Euro Music
