Yup, it was a cover version back in the day when weird reggae covers were everywhere cf. Chaka Demus & Pliers doing Twist & Shot, Big Mountain doing Peter Frampton, Louchie Lou & Michie One doing Lulu etc.

man! just look at the trojan beatles covers album!!!

The Beatles influence crossed all national and musical boundaries as is evidenced on this three-disc set from the legendary reggae label Trojan. Showcasing some of Jamaican music's finest talent interpreting the Fab Fours standards as dancehall anthems. Highlights include ska guitar legend Ernest Ranglin's version of “You Won't See Me", Twist & Shout turned into a kitsch skanking novelty hit by The Black Beatles on "Reggae & shout" and Desmond Dekkers fine cover of "Blackbird". The Beatles songs are now classics that fit with any genre of music but Reggae as a style absorbs other sounds better than others, almost as if Reggae and Lennon & McCartney were made for each other
