I do agree that Genetics (or perhaps a hormone imbalance in the womb?) plays a big part in sexuality, I have always known I was gay, from as far back as I can remember. I didn't fully admit it to myself until I was in my mid 20s (well, 24), but I have always known...

I think it's a mixture tbh. Someone I know made a good point, if being gay was genetic then any children you had would surely be gay too? And that's not the case...

I know in my case I have always had all the classic traits of a gay person, even if I didn't actually realise and accept I was until very recently. But I think that could all be put down to the way I was brought up i.e no strong father figure and the usual stereotypes.

And then again  I was thinking the other day, why do a large majority of gay people act camp? That can't be the result of the way you are nurtured, so it must be something innate.

I've just completely confused myself now  I don't know what to believe

I think only a minority of gay people are really camp Julian Clary / Marco out of BB type tbh

I know several gay people and all of them were just like normal regular guys, you could not tell they were gay and they always wore regular casual clothing and talked in normal accents etc, I have never come across a camp gay guy but dozens of regular guys who just happen to be gay, I just think tv and the media like to stereotype gays and concentrate on the camp fairies thus giving the impression most if not all gays are Julian Clary types

I think alot of gays make themselves camper for some reason and it sticks.

Oh, you're misunderstanding what I mean when I say "camp". I mean, have camp traits, not that they're complete queens like 90% of the gays on TV.

All of the gay people I know have camp traits, I do, but everyone's always told me they couldn't guess that I was gay before they knew. So if you look at it like that, a large percentage of gay people do have camp traits - even if they aren't always noticeable.

Yeah, I really don't know why people do that either

Julian Clary / Marco

lmao

This guy is clearly deranged, and was probably afraid of coming out, so afraid that he wishes he wasnt gay. So now he thinks he can change it.

Its understandable why these things come about though, because i know alot of people, who are so Traumatised by being Gay.

Oh and i also agree about the Genetic thing, your obviously born with your sexuality in my opinion

Without getting into the whole debate, we already know there are such things as recessive genes that produce different eye colour, hair colour etc. in offspring

I have read somewhere that when a gay person has an identical twin, usually BOTH are gay. There was even an american duo of 2 identical twins that were lesbians but they didn´t explore that in their music like T.a.t.u. I can´t imagine a totally camp person having an identical twin being a macho guy.

You don't feel gay because you have be brought up in a family and a society, school, media etc where being gay was not the norm, in fact in your case, in a generation where being gay was completely abnormal and a sin against God. With the wrath of God, your parents and family and your teachers all against gays - everyone as a youngest you learn your conditioning would have been deeply set.

If you where born at certain times of the Roman empire where all men where gay you certainly would of been gay also and not thought twice about it.

well said...

and as for the 'tiny minority' of people who are gay.... officially it's 10%, that's 1 in 10... "fficially".. hardly a 'small minority'... however, that figure is much, much more. It seems we live in an age where bisexuality comes in and out of fashion... nothing, no-one will convince me from my thinking that to some degree, EVERYONE is totally bisexual... but some people just aint that adventurous in bed, and some people just don't want to explore their sexual side.... thankfully, many do.

Yeah true, with Muslims/Islamists they are by and large homophobic but worship a prophet who had a 9 year old wife

very true... Muhammed... nothing but a paedophile.

When Muhammed was about 50 years old he had dreams of marrying a child, Aisha, who was only about 4-5 years old. The Koran tells us that when he first slept with Aisha she was only nine years old, and that she then remained with him for the last nine years of his life. Muhammed was 53 years old when he first slept with the 9-year old child Aisha. When he dreamed of marrying her she was six years old, or younger, so Muhammed was about 50 years old then.

And the Muslims think gays are disgusting?!?!?

It is a sad fact that as human beings often what we fear in ourselves, whatever that may be, we project outwards, make separate, detached and 'other' and then demonise it.

I know a camp gay that has a macho identical twin brother

But being "camp" is like listening to Madonna and Cher and watching Dawson´s Creek?

No, that's just a stereotypical view of the sort of music gay people like listening to ;) By camp, I mean the way some gay people walk, talk etc. which can't be helped, and is sometimes exaggerated.

Oh yes, I don't really want to go into all that. Still, if it was genetic I would think the chances of having a gay child would be higher - and I've never hard of any research to prove that

It's an interesting subject but I don't really have the knowledge in this context. But I remember hearing about research into a 'cancer gene', so some people who smoke all their lives but don't have the cancer gene don't get cancer. I still think most things in life are both nature and nurture. I saw a programme once where identical twins were separated at birth and when they were re-united their lives had been like a mirror of one another.

We're just complex beings . . . and all the better for it ^_^

But what about all these Muslims who are 'disowned' for being gay then? Surely they're brought up in a way that'd mean they couldn't possibly be gay going by that logic. I don't think there is any evidence really that'd point to anything other than it being genetic. It annoys me sometimes with all these stereotypes with certain people do this and that or like this and that means they're gay, one of my brothers liked playing with Barbies and always took all their clothes off and left their high heels (he liked high heels for some reason) but still he isn't gay. In the same way I like Girls Aloud and just because they have a gay following doesn't stop me being attracted to women etc. I get called camp as well particularly with the way I dance but silly things like that don't determine someone's sexual preference -_- God! That site which was posted in the Moz forum where it had 'gay bands' and 'safe bands' would fit in well with all that probably as you're basically saying what is 'exposed' to you in your upbringing makes you gay or straight. <_< I've never had a problem with homosexualality and my parents are in no way homophobic at all (my mum thought I was going to tell her I was gay once  ) so it's always been 'the norm' and I've never been sexually aroused by a man and I don't think I will because I have 'straight' genes.
