Only Fools And Horses a classic ??? do me a favour lol it was tedious repetitive $h!te, better than Little Britain and The Office but the most predictable program ever, every show would be the same with that guy calling Rodney "Dave" and Del making a comment and Rodney catching on 20 secs later and Uncle Albert saying "During the war", the same predictable old jokes were recycled again and again and again

Only Fools And Horses a classic ???

using the term classic as in retro not giving an opinion.

would rather watch Bilko and thats in b&w!!!!

Well you didn\'t make that clear did you !

And this board is about DISCUSSION so discussing their relative merits is relevant

agreed craig.... ofah is utterly c**p. so was bilko, thats one comedy i detest even more then ofah...

i liked top cat, but was too old to appreciate dangermouse so i didnt watch it!

Aah good to know someone else hated OFAH I thought I was committing the equivalent of tv blasphemy slagging it off lol as I imagine there a lot of OFAH fans on BJ but I hated the show big time

Can\'t comment on Bilko never saw an episode of it but judging by what you said doesn\'t sound like I missed much

well you gotta put 'classic' or it might be deamed too new. Father Ted was closed and that was around 1995 (thought it was ten years since he died)

so whys that?

I LOVE Only Fools and Horses, I'm such a big fan, always have been  I almost have the whole series on DVD ^_^

I remember watching Topcat when I was very little too, so I vote for that over Dangermouse - which I can't remember every being that interested in. -_-

Yeah guess so lol as soon as I think of the word classic I think of something in the excellence sense as opposed to the age sense

its still being shown, it was shown in recent years so would be more appropriate in the tv forum and leave this forum for real retro :). father ted started in '96 i believe and ran until the millenium.

OFAH is a classic imo. Although it hung around for a little too long, in it's day it was fresh, very well observed and well scripted. In places was both funny and touching, not many programmes manage to do that. It had a lot of guts. Surely it becomes a classic because it was so of it's time, a piece of social commentary and part of the heritage?

Oh, and Dangermouse is also a classic

both wrong!!

the Collins TV Heanen book (ISBN 0-00-719099-9) staes on page 305 it started on 21 April 1995 and last ep on 1 May 1998. so one year out. the papers were wrong.

Mashyman!!! dude think we should cut all this c**p about it being 1996 or 1997 whatever and just limit it to 60s, 70s and 80s, (as Scott said make it futher away). esp since the pop area is full of retro at the mo!!! still loads of retro things in those decades to discover!!!

btw have the decency to move it to tv!!!

father ted ran from 95-98... but they repeted it regularly since.

erm, if you are such a big fan of limiting retro to before the 90's why start a thread in the 90's?...

not much gets posted about the 90's anyway, the cut off point should really be "if its still current" as several acts from the early-mid 90's are rooted firmly in the 80's.... annie lennox for eg.. i closed the father ted thread as its still current.

.

i'm not i think it should be anything 20C. but if your gonna have a weird cut off date why not just go the whole way. esp if your not gonna be flexible. also you could stick all the heritage acts your way for all the consumers who want to enjoy them (brand focus).

so why wasnt the iggy pop, sparks, david bowie, pet shop boys, new order, bautiful south and stranglers threads closed?? a lot of those are still current and esp. in the cases of Sparks and Bowie, who are providing music a milion miles away from the 1970s

and if this is true why hasnt Berlinda Carlisle been moved in here. shes from the 80s its an album of 'Chansons' like Jacques Brel and Édith Piaf. she covers Bonnie et Clyde for ffs!!!!

and remember Dermot Morgan is dead!!! and Scott Walker is in the Culture box!!!!

oh ffs... stop bickering, the decision is made and im sticking to it!

those you list are rooted in retro... they may still be going but so what if their prime time was rooted firmly in the past?
